When I come back into town in my Stroker after an 80 MPH trip on the interstate, it's about 2 miles from I-35 to my house on streets with a top speed limit of 40 MPH. There's a little bit of slow-speed driving through residential areas before I get home as well. Is this slow-speed driving enough to cool down my turbo? I don't have an EGT gauge.
Do you guys have any kind of cool-down ritual before shuttin'-er down?
I just always let it idle for a few minutes before I shut it off. I don't have one of those auto timer shut off things. The few miles to your house will cool it down some, but accelerating from any light or stop sign will heat it up again.
By the time I get to where I'm going, I park and let her idle until I have the windows (four on my Crew Cab) open just the way I want them. The I put the sunshade in the windshield and flip the visors down to hold it there. I shut off the radio and A/C or heater, depending on the season (yeah, I know, but I'm a disabled vet and I don't need to sweat 24/7 anymore) and after another thirty seconds, she should be cooled down enough.
I don't have any gauges either, yet, but I've had no problems with the turbo. I'm now approaching 119,000 miles on her.
10-4. Yeah your about an hour away from me. You should make a trip out to Death Row Diesel sometime, maybe I've got some tricks for ya. Depending on how much you've already done to your truck. If not, maybe we'll see ya on the road one of these days.
RubberDuck if you're ever planning on being in the Temple area PM me. I go on a 25-day vacation at the end of this month. Hopefully I'll get a chance to check out Death Row Diesel sometime.
Well, I'll be blowin' through there Friday. I've got a wedding to go to. But if I get a chance to stop and visit, I'll holler at ya. And if your in the mood for some mods or something along those lines, let me know.
I wish I could say I'd be home, but being on call 24/7 it's hard to say. I'll probably be working. However, when I go on vacation I might just have to roll a little coal down toward Austin. Hope you have a safe trip, I-35 kind of reminds me of the Autobahn!
Even if we can't meet up Friday, I'd still like to meet ya and check out your rig sometime.

i like to let mine run for about a minute or so before shuttin' it off. usually enough time for me to get out and listen to the sweet sound of the stacks and then get back in and shut 'er off. you should definitely go over to the ducks to play a little. it's a lot of fun.
