So I heard back from the dealer today and they finally figured out what was wrong with my X. First, I have to say that I asked them about the recall back in June of 2005 and the service advisor got attitude saying my X wasn't involved in that. It was where the trucks were just stalling without reason or warning and they were having to replace the wiring harness. My X went back into the shop last week when it started sputtering, bucking and then stalling. So, they called today and said that the wiring harness had to be replaced and that's what the problem was. Hmmmm....kinda funny. I really hope this will take care of all the repeat problems that I keep having. I love my truck...just hate the problems!!!
Yes, I`ve had the SCT tuner on there for about a year now with the EGR turned off. The turbo, EGR valve, EGR cooler and oil cooler and almost everything I listed are brand new, and less than 2 months and 1000 miles old. I just did my oil change and both fuel filters at 30000 miles, and keep very well maitained. I also run a Lucas brand fuel aditive/cleaner from time to time. I`m going to take it to a different dealership next time. I`m still waiting to hear back on my engine problems, and am also waiting for new grill and bumper that were scratched on last visit. Gonna try corprate Ford!
Not to be a smartass or anything, but you have a totally modded up truck and a bunch of stuff failed after you tuned it?? And you are getting upset at Ford and a Dealership for things breaking and them having a hard time fixing them??
You should be thankful they replaced all that stuff under warranty and your truck has not been blacklisted.
If you are out there beating that thing with a tuner on it, then you may want to consider a little blame on yourself whilst you are disconnecting the battery and also consider the time spent in the shop while Ford replaces all your turbo system parts for free as part of the game.
This may not be the case though, but it seems likely that the multiple problems are walking hand in hand with your modifications.
If you had bothered to read any of my replies you would see that most of these problems started happening BEFORE the chip was put on. That's why I bought the chip in the first place. This is my only vehicle so, of course, I don't "beat it up". My wife drives it 90% of the time. We use the chip for occasional towing and to get better gas mileage.
Did you happen to read my last post that they found that the wiring harness was bad? That was a recall 2 years ago and we were never notified. I'm not an irresponsible owner. My truck has had the same problems with AND WITHOUT the chip on. Do you think I'm stupid enough to think that if the problem starts while the chip is on and then stops when it is off, that I expect the dealer to be able to diagnose and fix the issue? We have had the truck in for almost all the TSB's on the 6.0 Diesel. Not to be a smartass, but do you think all those people have had mods and chips too and that's why Ford is having these problems? I think they would find some sort of pattern if that was the case. It is quite possible that we just got a screwed up engine. I'm hoping that replacing the "defective wiring harness" (as I was told by Ford) will fix some of these issues.
Hey, thanks! Sorry about coming back defensive. I keep getting "beat up" here and maybe it's cuz I was unclear in the beginning. Anyway, I know that some people are probably having problems becuase of the mods but I don't think that is the issue in my case. It's been a frustrating ride but hopefully it will get fixed so I can depend on my truck again. I was hoping to beat the "stigma" that some people have given the Ford name.
The 6.0 litre is hard enough to diagnose from a tech point of view because of the differences from month to month sometimes in the trucks. It used to be more like year to year changes but this motor has so many differences its amazing. In 2005 there are differences in the airbox because of a backorder issue on top of it. Not saying this has anything to do with your situation but then when you add a chip, take it off and on, it can make it nearly impossible for the tech to diagnose.
On the flip side, if Ford would come clean on the items that are poorly designed, then guys like us would not feel the need to take the chips off and on. I was honest with my dealer and got scrutinized on items not related to headgaskets and headbolts. I was also told from that point on to remove all aftermarket units when I brought it in so it is kind of a catch 22.
Yeah, I can understand that. Even though the problem might not be related to the chip, it's sometimes easier to blame a "hard to diagnose" problem on the chip.
So, how do you like your '08 F350? I ran into a guy in Flag that had one and he really liked it!
Still getting used to the automatic but everything else is really nice when just driving around unloaded. My 6.0 had a lot more power (chipped of course) but this one is not that bad unless I am towing in the mountains but again, it might be me getting used to the auto. I also put 37" tires on it without a lift kit which is cool but this also may be affecting the pull up the summit. My winter tires will be 35" and I will have to see if there is a difference then. All and all, two thumbs up.
Well I got my ride back today from dealership. Replaced wire harness and did latest reflash -no longer purges injectors. Seams to have a little more turbo lag of the line, but is running great! I really hope this solves all of my problems!!!!
