Sooo... the Ford dealership replaced the oil cooler with a oil cooler upgrade kit and I had them install the bulletproofdiesel egr cooler yesterday. Today they took it out for the test and wah lah! its still leaking coolant and they have concluded it is the head gasket! The fortunate side is that the head gasket is covered under my warranty.
My concern, and chime in if you know, according to Ford the process they have gone through is a part of the Ford prescribed diagnostic procedure to determine the source of the coolant leak.
is there? was there? a method to determine that it was the head gasket in the first place? I mentioned it to the dealership(the one I bought it from) service supervisor and his response was that Ford misdiagnosed the problem.

Last January I bought an 05 6.0 limited ex with 56k miles on it. I purchased it from a chevy dealer and purchased the extended warranty( First Extended Service Corporation) with it. I thought I had done plenty of research on the vehicle and was aware of any issues that I might have. But I never knew about the 6.0 PSD issues, of which I am now learning more than I ever cared to know.
Last month I noticed that I was losing coolant, about 2 gallons in a month. I took it to the dealer, went through the extended warranty confusion, and the ex was taken to ford for diagnosis. Ford returned with, the oil cooler is the problem, with all work and parts totaling out at $2300+, oh, and by the way.... your extended warranty doesn't cover the oil cooler, or the egr cooler if that happens to be the problem.
The extended warranty cost $3200 as the sales person sold it as coverage for 'peace of mind' as diesels can be expensive to fix.
The only route that I haven't pursued yet is speaking directly with corp. ford to see if they will repair the vehicle as its just outside the mfg. warranty.
I spoke ford about their esp and for $3100 I can get a 4/48k powertrain warranty.
Every mechanic type I have spoken with except ford has told me to get rid of this vehicle as that engine is a money pit. I asked a shop up near where I live how much it cost to change the head gaskets/bolts and they quoted the job at $6500 and that was after the gal on the phone told me to get rid of it.
I love the excursion, I am hating this warranty/engine debacle. Any advice?
Location - Interior Alaska.

If you keep calling people & try to remain calm ask to speek to their supervisor maybe they will help pay for some of it if not all, be a pest & let them know this is why you got the warranty. Crap there are no miles on the truck yet it doesn't make sense.
I went up the chain with the warranty company, and they flat out said its not a covered part. And as a token of their goodwill they offered to pay $500 of the bill. Which is better than nothing, but that is the extent of what they will do regarding this issue.
spoke with corp. ford today to see if they might cover it. Basically, 'not a chance'.
garrrr.... so i did purchase the bulletproof egr cooler to have it installed while they are doing the oil cooler upgrade. that should alleviate this problem for the foreseeable future.

Was this the chevy dealer you mentioned earlier? It may have little bearing on the issue but, they don't really understand Fords or the process Ford requires to authorize a warrantee claim, unless they have worked at a Ford dealership for a while.
I'm glad it's being taken care of under warrantee. For $6500 plus having paid big bucks for the extended warrantee that is apparently worthless I would be talking to an attorney quick! It is unfortunate that whenever a person has a problem with a corporation the only way to get something done is to get a lawyer involved, our modern society i guess.
You might try to get your money back from the warrantee you bought and then buy the Ford warranty in it's place. I doubt there is any chance of that happening though.
man, i feel for you! storys like this(and many others) is what made me stay very far away from the 6.0 when buying. i hope you can get some help! you dont need a unrelaible truck up noth because if it leaves you stranded you could get cold quick!
So they say your headgaskets are bad? When you have "headgasket" issues, it isnt the gaskets that go bad.. Its rather that the studs stretch.
The common cure for this, is once you have "headgasket" issues is to get a set of OEM head gaskets and order a set of ARP head studs. Then youll never have a dreaded "headgasket" issue.. That is if the mechanic torques the studs correctly.. If he doesnt then its back to haven bad headgasket issues
I can definitely say "been there and done that!" I feel yor pain man, that really sucks! I would raise serious hell about the mis diagnosis issue! Thats just wrong that they told you wrong like that and it cost you so much! Dealer mis-diagnosed mine the same way! I went to a private diesel shop and let them repair it right!!! Sounds like the dealer you took it to are dumb asses when it comes to the 6.0! I'd stick it to em and hold there feet to the fire for costing you money on something that did not repair the problem! Get your money back or part of it at least!
