.....Coulda swore my buddy that got an 07' had cooled seats, as well as heated seats. I don't see that as an option on the 08's?? Am I missing something.....has this ever been offered on Ford trucks?? Thanks,
I know the Expeditions offered heated and cooled seats on the Eddie Bauer editions. I have wondered how much trouble it would be to find some junk yard seats and retrofit the cooling system into my seats. Perhaps that's what your buddy did? I haven't seen it as an option on the Superduty.
Mine came with heated/cooled seats as part of an aftermarket package. Ford calls it the Roll-A-Long package which includes wheels/tires, billet grille, power folding running boards, and leather electric heated/cooled seats. The cooling pretty much consists of a small fan that blows air through the perforations in the seat and lower back. Not as much as I thought it would be, but it does keep you from sweating against the leather. Because some of the padding is removed to make room for the fan, the remaining padding has to be kind of stiff which some might find uncomfortable.
Not sure how it is done on the trucks, but my 04 Lincoln LS has heatred/cooled seats. The way the cooling works is that the system has an air "pipe" from the rest of the ac system and routes it thru some hose that looks like vacuum cleaner hose, into the bottom and back of the seat. The seat has sealed cushions so the air can't get out. Then there are pinholes in the seat surfaces to let the air get where you want it.
So you would need to have the air outlets somewhere under the seats. I have seen outlets on other cars, but don't know on trucks.
For heated seats, the seat just has heating coils in them so you need a switchable source of power.
They help a little when it is hot. Don't know how well the heater portion works since I live in SoCal and have never used the heater part.
