787 Rolled-Out

Another one for the aviation guys. Just finished watching the rollout. Here are a couple of pictures I took of the live video webcast.

One gorgeous looking plane in my opinion. Sharp looking nose, a lot bigger than it seemed in previous pictures.

She did get quite a nose job. There will be no mistaking her for any other plane, that's for sure. Great job Boeing!

If she flys as good as she looks it will be great. You know that you can go onto the boeing site and replay the rollout any time.

And I probably will before too long. Despite many on A.net complaining that it was boring, I found it rather intriguing and kept my suspense up waiting for the actual showing of it.

And the final reveal was absolutely wonderful:

Not the quality of the actual presentation, but it'll do.

I'm glad they got the audio problems from the early part sorted out. I was quite worried that I was going to watch a visual presentation and get zero audio the whole time.

I did love the 747-style showing of the flight attendants, and the logos of all the purchasing airlines on the side of the airplane. Impressive that they updated the airplane scheme and the presentation to add on the Air Berlin order from yesterday, and apparently the Qatar order that was firmed up that no one had heard of.

I was going to ask if they made andy orders on 7/08/07?

Did you notice on the presentation that the more 787's an airline bought the greater the time the were on screen?

Not really...honestly I had it minimized during that time, I was tri-tasking between reading that 986 post post on A.net, eating, and watching the WMP feed.

The Qatar order was confirmed on 07/08/07, and I think the Air Berlin order was the morning. That's why I was quite impressed they had updated the presentation so quickly.

I did see the CEOs of American and Delta in the crowd of attendees, so at least they're strongly interested. American's CEO said they'd order "before the end of the year." I just hope their pilot's union stays good with it after all the (excuse me mods) pissing and moaning they did with the DFW-China route.

This is still my favorite picture of the event:

This one though, of people reaching out to the plane, is almost eerie.

Come on they are simply reaching for their desire for a long time. Wasn't this a pilgrimage of sorts?

I have a feeling that AA will get some before the end on the year. The did state that they were going to order something before the end of the year. I also hope that the pilots don't kill it, but if they look at the operational costs of the plane versus what they are flying now they would be stupid to keep the inefficient. Less money on the plane, more money for everyone else. (Sometimes)

Remember the DC-10 was classified as a poor/unstable/horrendous aircraft when it first came out and look at it now.

Nicest looking commercial airliner yet.

Considering it can do most routes on 20% less fuel... I can imagine AA dropping some of them on the ever so busy LAX-JFK routes they run. I'll make any trip I can out of DFW to catch one.

EDIT: higher quality video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=QZiRXwLPNTY

Smoother, clearer sound, better graphics, ...and without the retard talk.

Hey and it has bigger windows too!!!!

Yes, I agree that the cost savings is well worth the price of the new AC. UA/AA/CO/DA need to get on the ball and get their orders in ASAP 2011 to 2013 seems as if it is a long way away, but I am sure Boeing would throw them a Bone.

I am still scraching me head about Qatar with all of the Airbuses to go to Boeing for the 787 and not WAAAAAIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTT for the 350.

Qatar has the time and money to blow. The 787 will fill in the ultra long range but not super high density markets that the A350 would be overkill in (same as the triple 7)

I didn't really see how big it was 'til the people flocked around it. The bigger windows both in the cabin and flight deck make the plane look more "normal" sized.

On Anet they stated that the windows are 18 inches and bigger than the 777.

Qatar has the more money problem...I would just worry about mantiance when everyone is checked out with Airbus and now some will beed to be checked with Boeing.

Did you see the T-1000 on the 747 test bed? DANG that thing is huge compared to the other engines. I also thought the same think about size. I did not look big until all the people got around her. I love the angle from the back where you can see the rake of the wing.

Do you think it should of had an ANA tail?

No. I'm sorry...I truly have respect for ANA for sticking their neck out to be the launch customer. But it's a Boeing 787. Not an ANA 787. It should be recognized as a Boeing 787 until the day it starts flying for ANA.

I think it's more of everyone was checked out on metal, now they gotta learn composites, new engines, new technology. I think they'll pick it up just fine though.

Yep the windows are 18 inches... I think I heard 4 inches taller than the 777, which is currently the largest in commercial service.
