Just reading other posts on the site, in various forums. Got a stock 460, all I have is the regular round air cleaner on top of the carb, is there something else I could do, relativley inexpensively, to get more air? My bud says more breathing, better running. Just want to do what I can to tweak her, not making a monster here. (YET!) What about K & N addtions/boltups? Thanks Blair
when you mention the regular round air cleaner, i will take that as being the stock air cleaner. if thats the case then i would say give the k&n a try. height and diameter play into an effective air cleaner as well as smooth entry into the carb. if you are using an open element you might want to give the 14" flow control from k&n a try. it would also service you well with any future power upgrades.
I think the Ford Hood of the late '80's and mid '90's is perfect for adding a ram air to a gas powered truck. I havn't done this, but if a person would run ductwork from the front sloped edge of the hood back to a custom built air box, I would think it should add a little positive boost at highway speeds.
For your question, yes adding a high flow air filter and possibly some cool air ductwork would help, but there will be a limit to intake/air cleaner gains without some exhaust headers or exhaust manifold work.

Ford engines are limited in there breathing by the exhaust, until you get the exhaust flowing (headers, dual exhaust, or cat-back) you'll see minimal gains by just changing the air filter. Deen
