Poor air conditioner performance?

I don't want to sound like a whiner, but how do the a/c units work on your newer F-150s? This is my first summer with a 2007 FX4, and I swear, the a/c on my old 1999 F-250 SD seemed a lot colder than this. I know I live in the hell hole of America (Phoenix, was 118 yesterday), but my last truck's a/c seemed to blow colder. Before I take it in to have the dealer check it, anyone else notice moderate performance by their a/c units?

I just set it to Max A/C and turn it to 2 on the fan speed and it will actually get cold in the truck. It is 95F today and it did very well. I tried just turning the A/C on without Max and when I would stop at a light or go slow in traffic it would get warm.

I just got back from our vacation home in Bullhead City, AZ. We were there a week. 122 a couple of days. Everything worked fine and cooled as well as you can cool a black truck. Remember, air conditioners don't make cold. They remove heat. If the heat load is higher than the btu capacity of the unit you'll never cool it down. Also don't open the windows with air on as you introduce heat.

I just purchased a 2007 King Ranch and the a/c is bad. I took it back to dealer at 500 miles and they didn't put any gauges on it just a thermometer check and they said it was fine. WRONG. I think the a/c is an issue.

The a/c units on these trucks is known for its inability to remove heat from the cabin in a timely manner. I took mine in a couple of months ago and the dealer told me everything was within spec. The service advisor told me that the electronic temp control system basically sucks. He put some sort of switch on it so that the system wouldn't switch back and forth. Its a little better, at least it doesn't get warm anymore when sitting at stop lights.

I traded a 2006 avalanche for a 2007 king ranch. When you pay $44,000 for a truck the a/c should work. The climate control in the avalache was great. The ford dealer is telling me to forget the climate control in the king ranch and to leave it on max 60. its the only setting that will cool. This is either a bad design or a dealer issue. I am taking it back again on tuesday and see what they say a second time. I think a dealer should at least put gauges on it and check the freon level.........

I believe the issue is with the electronic temp control. It constantly switches the compressor clutch on/off. I thought they had fixed the issues in the '07, so maybe you'll get lucky and the dealer will find a low freon condition or bad compressor clutch. When they did the thermometer check what was the temp coming out of the vents?

not moving, and running for about 15 minutes, it gets to 44. So the dealer says its fine. But I purchased a thermometer also and have it in the vent and always driving normal you cannot get it below 50 and when you stop at a light or slow traffic you can watch it climb to 58-60.

That sounds about right. Welcome to late model F150 ownership. Do a search and you'll find literally 1000's of posts from displeased, sweating, but defeated and accepting owners.

if you having cooling concerns at idle check the fan clutch. a co worker had this problem at idle and took back to dealer. the dealer also said everything was fine. he finally found the problem with guages at idle the high side pressure went over 400 and the compressor would cut off. he replaced the clutch fan and everything is good. one way to check the fan is to watch the fan after turning the engine off at normal operating tempeture. the fan should stop turning almost instantly if it continues to turn rapidly the fan clutch is bad.

Coming from a 91 Accord, and compared to my 96 Accord, the AC in my 06 150 is outstanding. I have to run the Accord on full speed the entire time and never get "cold". Give the 150 5 minutes on full speed and i back it down to 2, maybe even 1. I'm in nebraska, got up to 101 today (not as bad as AZ, but pretty dang hot!) and it preformed well. I have stock privacy glass on the back and 35% black on the front. Black color truck, scab. I couldn't be happier with the AC and the heat performance. But i do not have the climate control, just the speed, temp and mode dials.

Ya know I have noticed this with my 04', it seems very slow to get cold for one, and once cold I really dont think it as cold as my 2000 f350 diesel got, nor my good ol 95' f250(Would freeze ya out of cab). My mechanic drained my system and dried, and refilled and it is still about the same, I mean it works just doesnt seem as good as any other truck ive had.

Cool

Living down here in S.Texas, these trucks can barely keep you cool. From reading past post, its seems the components,(evaporator, compressor and condensor)are too small for this size of truck. Our 04 Chevy work truck will freeze you out within two minutes, and that's without using MAX. I even checked the pressure myself on my 150 and its always in the green.

I had an A/C issue with my 2002 Explorer. It would not really cool the vehicle down. I got rid of it because it had too many problems. My 06 F350 5.4 has good A/C, and it keeps me cool. I was afraid it would not work right, but it is doing OK.
