running on exhaust stroke
i got a reply to my thread that said my timing was set at #1 tdc exhaust stroke and its running. I bought this truck from a friend and he replaced almost everything under the hood and i was going to set the timing and pulled the #1 plug out and put a cork in it to get tdc compression stroke but the timing mark was at 6 oclock. how do i determine if or get this thing set up so i can make sure everything is just right and i can set the timing. also the pic in the chiltons shows my dist. rotation with the #1 on the cap in a different spot than where its at on my truck

I think you misinterpreted what I was saying which is that ..IF.. you were truely timed with your #1 at 6:00 (top of exaust stroke) then the truck WOULDN'T RUN.
