aod transmission

aod transmission
I have a 1987 ford f-150 xlt lariat 4x4 truck. the aod tranny has gone out and I want to put in a three speed automatic. which types will work, and what types are there. any help would be appriciated..

I can't help you with which tranny's will work......I'm just wondering why you would want to get rid of the OD. With gas prices like they are it's nice to have it for on the road. In town traffic I often run my AOD in just "D"......not letting it shift into OD..but when I jump on the e-way....I kick it back up to 0D.
Just wondering........another AOD would bolt right up and you'd have no issues to worry about.
