whats the difference between an aod and aot. is that a 3 speed and 4 speed? what are the codes on the tranny to identify? i ask this because i went to autozone and got a filter for an aod and it was the wrong one, they asked me if it was a 3 or 4 speed.. i never knew there was more then 1 type of aod, the tranny is out of an 88 bronco, it will be goin in my 93 f150 soon
I maybe wrong but i think there is only one type of aod maybe they where offered with either 3 or 4 speed you think it would be a 4 speed cause wouldnt that be the od
Ummm... tell Auto Zone they are smokin drugs. An overdrive transmission has 4 speeds at least. 1,2,3 (direct drive) and then the 4th gear is the overdrive gear.
Never heard of an AOT to be honest. Someone will have to chime in with the transmission codes.
Does your 88 Bronco have an overdrive transmission? I don't think the E4OD came out until 91 or so. The only transmission options those years were the C6, which is a 3 speed with no overdrive, and then AOD which was a 3 speed plus overdrive. Give us the gear selection pattern on the cluster. P R N OD D 1 indicates an AOD..... and P R N OD 2 1 indicates a C6 or E4OD.
its P R N OD D . i knew it was an AOD, but they have two different filters, one for a 3 and one for a 4 speed. mine ended up bein the 4. yea the 88 has an od tranny. and the 93 has an E4OD. it lists an AOT in LMC truck. im bettin mayb its the same as aod but mayb not
I think this is just a difference in terminology with the auto parts stores... they call it Auto Overdrive Transmission versus the Ford standard of Auto Over Drive. The filter difference could also be a light duty vs regular duty tranny, like the version found behind early 4cyl rangers or something.
Another example...I know the local parts chain here only lists straps for the rear and side gas tanks for these years F150s. The guy I talked to got real puzzled when I told him there was no such thing as a side tank on an 87-95's Ford. Turns out the straps fit just fine though.
The diff is the 3 speed filter kit if for a C6, and it states it quite clearly in THEIR computer. I wouldn't return to that autozone.. They can't hire help for crap. The only auto overdrive in '88 was an AOD. You CAN'T put the AOD in place of an E4OD. If you have the AOD-E/4R70 then it MIGHT work. In '93 the AOD's equivalent was an AOD-E or 4R70 it's totally computer controlled and you'll need to find a computer from a manual transmission '93 truck to make sure you don't have problems.
or take the computer outta my bronco? i realize that im goin from computer to non computer tranny. but i didnt think that it would hurt anything. whatll happen if i switch without changin computers? and the computer showed a 3 and 4 speed aod so im not sure that it was the sales rep.
