I am just wondering how long it will take to change the upper and lower balljoint on a 94 f-150 4x4. I have a lift in my garage, and have already picked up the balljoint puller/press. I do need to pick up the spindle gear puller / slide hammer. Anything else I should need and about how long this job will take?
You need a special bearing socket, it's a hugh big thing with 4 tabs on it that removes the bearing retainer nuts. A pickle fork and BFH may come in handy as well. I'd say you'll spend 3-4 hours a side depending upon how much the hub and ball joints fight you.
ok now i have a problem. I got the spindle nuts off. I now need to get the spindle of the axel shaft. I have the slide hammer, but no instructions or pictures, does anyone have a diagram of how it would look like with all the adapters? I have a whole bunch of adapters, but no pictures of how it should look on the spindle bolts. I know theres bent arm looking ones, but I dont know how it should go. can anyone help?

so on the slide hammer, the end will be on teh axel shaft, and the adapters coming out will go to the bolts? So you slide the handle towards the axel shaft which hits the adapter on teh end of the slide hammer?
on the tool i have there is no adaptors ,theres 3 different size/thread steps if u will call it that screw on as the lock nuts go all those adaptors are for slide hammer???????because all u need of the slide hammer is the rod and slider it screws into the end of the spindle puller!!! The tool i have is same as pictured above
I use a soft headed hammer and hit side to side up and down worked on last 10 of them I had apart. Take both nuts off ball joints and hit with sledge(top of ball jiont or spindle) it will come right off after 4-5 hits. . Good luck
