Ill second the auto computer exchange I went through 2 ford IDM in a short time and was beginng to wonder if I had other issues when I puchased one from them and its been 2 years and no problem. and they are cheaper

Does the 2001 SD,7.3 Ltr have one of these boxes or does the engine preformance and injection control signals come from the on board computer? [silver box]

Yes it does it is up between the outer fender and the fender liner on the driver side you have to take the fender liner loose to get to it.
