How dirty is too dirty? I don't know if this is classified as an unacceptable bottle... Seems like a simple question. Here are two pics. It is yellow looking... Truck has over 200,000 on it....
I have no idea the maintenance records on the truck unfortunately, but I think I am going to buy the truck. Has a rebuilt tranny, is a lariat, 4x4 long bed and new ball joints. The coolant bottle just looked a bit dirty to me, or stained rather. A bit low on coolant but otherwise looks pretty solid....
Judging from the color of the coolant it appears that they have Shell Rotells ELC coolant in the engine.
And it has an AIS heavy duty filter installed.
I wouldn't worry about the color of the plastic, but instead would look for signs of cracking and/or a lot of sediment on the bottom of the tank.
Also before you start it and the engine is still cold pull the cap off and look for any oily film on top of the coolant.

If you mean they're cheap looking, yep mine's like that too. I'll be replacing those at some point. And the coolant just looks like the Gold stuff to me. Mine looks just like his and I have the gold.
The truck's coolant looks good. I did notice though, that if i am stopped in park an turn the steering wheel, it won't move more than 1/2 a turn ineither direction. Becomes very stiff. If i start to move the truck it will turn easier. Also, it has really agressive tires and when i slow down the truck sometimes shudders. The rotors were just turned though... Has new balljoints and trans too... Really like the truck... Oh the air filter housing won't fully buckle down, so there was a bit of grit down the intake. Turbo wheel looks sharp, only one small spot that was very minorly nicked. Blow by was like a tea kettle...
Intake had some oil/dust, but the further down the intake, the less the dust. Turbo looks fine except for one small nick... Runs great no smoke.... Still not worth it? Price is right...
I'd say if the rest of the truck is in good shape, go for it if the price is right. Servicing the turbo is not difficult, and we can help you out with that.
Edit: you said blow by was like a tea kettle...did it do that all the time, or only at a specific throttle/RPM position? These trucks are notorious for turbo surge, which is the nose you seem to describe.
As far as the steering goes, mine is the same way. When not moving, the wheel won't hardly turn. I'd say the fact that I have 13.5" wide tires don't help with that. You said the truck has aggressive tires - are they wider too?
Well, I bought it. Drove it home 14 hours... not going to do that one again. The front tires are pretty darn wide. I'll measure them. The turbo makes the usual noises, everything sounds good. It does have a small one drip oil leak coming from between the oil pan and trans. May be the turbo o rings?? At idle, the smoke is minimal, but give it throttle and it goes away...
