Motor Might be OK

I had the same problem with my 98 F150 drivers window. Although which side does not matter. All I had to do was take it apart and grease it up and it's been working fine ever since. Motors are about $50.00 if you need one. The passenger side started to do the same thing a while later so I did that side too and all is fine. It's a bit of a job to do but not to complicated. The biggest problem is that the motor is bolted to the slide mechanism and that is RIVETED to the door. Who knows why? (Six Rivets) They will have to be drilled out and replaced with Short - Short bolts. I think 1/2" so they don’t interfere with the operation of the window when it travels up and down. Use lock washers too. Do not unbolt the motor without securing the counter spring. I drilled a hole through the slide mechanism and bolted it so it could not move. The spring is strong. Then remove the motor if necessary. You can test it when the slide mechanism with the motor is removed from the door. Just plug in the electric and try it out. Be careful how you hold on to it. There are posts about removing the door panel if you don't know how it comes off. Do a search on door panel removal.

I'm a little word-e this morning but the job takes a couple hours and it's not too tough. My cost was $0.75 for six nuts, bolts and washers.

Good luck.

would the motor make a noise when I try it, mine does not make any noise at all, also what type of grease should I use? I found a motor for it in JC Whitney for 25 just in case you ever need it, I took the door panel apart already it was suprisingly easy, Thanks

Motor may be OK

I removed the motor from the silde and pluged it in. It ran in both directions. I don't remember it being noisy. I just used a very light film of some grease I had around the garage. It may have been wheel bearing grease. I have repaired at least three different cars windows and the track or slide was the problem in all three. The motors were good. I'm sure a motor can burn out I just haven't found that yet.

If the motor works, but the window won't move...the plastic gear could be stripped = VERY common.

The gear kits are available from Ford, and most auto parts stores, and if the question is asked "what kit, early or late?" Y'all want the late kit.

There is also a plastic window roller that attaches to the regulator arm, and then fits into the window channel that attaches to the glass. Those window rollers break and are another reason windows won't move.

quick tip. if you have a problem with a window motor tap on it with a hammer while you are holding the button, or slam the door while holding the button.... the brushes that make contact on the motor usually get crapped up because they always sit in the same position in the full up or full down position. It may work so well that you wont ever have to take the door panel off(only takes 3 mins anyway)
