I have a 2002 f-150 screw fx4 and when im sitting at a light or just plain old standing still. as soon as you hit the gas there is a clicking noise. do you think this could be front u-joints?? but if it were front u-joints wouldnt i get a vibration?? i know the rear are good because i replaced them recently. any input would be extremely helpfull.
Sounds to me like it is a broken exhaust manifold stud. Pop your hood and rev it by hand and listen to each side of the engine to see where it is coming from. Alot of times they are only noticeable under acceleration.
you know what i never thgought of that. because i do have an exhaust leak on initial start up and when the motor heats up everything expands and the leak goes away but the clicking noise is always there. thanks alot ill check it out.
well i figured it out, i went under the truck and had someone replicate the noise and i found that where the trans mount was bolter to the crossmember, the crossmember itself was cracked into 3 pieces. only around the bolts. but there is a plate between them that is keyed to the crossmember so i removed the pieces and bolted it back up and the noise is gone. just for further info for anyone that may come scross this.
150 mudder, i think i have the same inital exhaust leak on my 97 f150 4x4, 4.6 liter, but my leak has gotten progressively worse to the point where it doesnt go away unless i drive on the highway, u got any ideas?????
well it turned out that the clicking noise wasnt from my exhaust. and as for my exhaust leak it is coming from the cat. converter itself on the passanger side. and does your leak sound like a cracked manifold, loose clamp, etc??
150mudder, not sure what the leak sounds like, but i have been advised of a few different possible fixes;
supposedly, u can buy an after market gasket that fits the manifold aand headers???
the nut in the egr valve tube has rusted out, which would make some sense to me because my engine light is on, and the computer says egr valve
someone also told me that the bolts that hold the manifold to the headers could be rusted out as well
these all seem like possible solutions, but im not sure where to start.
but my truck is a 97 f150, 4.6 liter, 4x4, with almost 200k for miles
personally i would check out the egr valve and related components if you have a leak, bolts rusted, and a code for the valve. seems like a good place to start checking for leaks.
