im having this same problem with my 01 f150 5.4 MSOF transfer case.
i can move the shift lever to 4hi but the light doesnt come on and the 4wd doesnt engage? i changed to fluid in the t case and still nothing. any ideas?
I had a similar problem - clicking in a dashboard, 4x4 light was turning on, but the 4wd was not engaging. Turned-out to be a loose electrical connection to my left selenoid (4wd, the one with the blue line).... Found the problem by following this thread. Thanks to all!!!
I hadn't posted or heard from this thread in over a year! Merry Christmas everyone. And happy New Year; Twice!
My prob ended up being the actual electiric motor that turns the transfer case nobber thingy on the back of the transmission. Under the truck. I didn't spend a dime on it. I just pulled off, opened up and squirted some cleaner and such on it and after I put it together again, it has worked great since then. A year later and still working. It acutally snowed the last couple days (Tulsa) but I have been using off and on (so to speak) for the last few weeks without probs. I forgot about this problem last year.
I think last year at this time, I took the motor off, turned the nobber thingy with big plyers to the 4X4 spot, and drove for a few days in ice without the ability to get out of 4X4. After a few days, I did the above (WD40 and sandpaper did it), and still works today.
Mine is a 1997 with the electic switch on the dash to get in 4X4. Good luck.
