hello i m looking to switch to a cummins diesel in my 1986 f -350 and was looking for a zf 5 spd to use for the conversion. my question is are the 351 and 460 patterns the same on the transmissions or are they different for every engine avalible.

 

All I can tell you on that is no gasser tranny will bolt to a 6.9 or 7.3 engine.

All diesel transmissions from the 83 6.9 thru the 2003 Power Stroke 7.3 will bolt up to any of the diesel IH motors.

 

302-351 windsor and 351 cleveland use the same pattern. 351m-400 429-460 use the same also. Diesel is in a family all to itself. I will have to check my book to make sure of the interchanges in bell housing designs. To make matters even more fun some 302s had there own pattern also.

 

destroked.com has an adapter if you need one to mount the bellhousing to the engine, fordcummins.com also has one but it requires you to cut part of the transmssion. Here's a link to a conversion website,
