Red face Lockers?

I must be honest I don't know anything about this subject. I was talking to some friends that were saying that they put "Detroit" lockers on their truck and it basically made the truck posi? I'm just interested in any information about lockers. Thanks

Yes, Lockers will make the axle a posi, they will never slip or anything, both wheels will always be turning the same speed...some people do this on the front and rear axles and then they only get stuck when all 4 wheels are spinning, but you should be out of the mud hole by then lol...

Not true. A Detroit Locker and all similiar will provide the same of torque to both wheels as long as you are in a fairly straight line. If they are operating properly they should unlock in sharp corners/curves allowing the inside tire to turn more slowly than the outside tire. Only a spool rear end will always lock both tires all the time. A spool should only be used for a pure off road or racing vehichle.

Well then I don't see why anyone would care whether they had limited slip or lockers... Not trying to be a smart $$$ but it seems like the same thing to me...

A limited slip is always trying to put all the power to the one wheel with the most traction. Only one wheel is spinning. With a locker both wheels are 99.9% of the time have equal power to them. Even tho one may only have a little traction it is still doing more than a limited slip. Also I forgot to mention a locker will usually stay locked as long as you are applying the gas/fuel. If you come to a sharp corner and stay in the gas both tires will have power thus causing a pushing sensation thru the corner. In the rain or snow covers roads a locker can be a handful to drive if you have never experience that before. Also lockers cause the tires to wear quicker because in the sharper corners/turns if it stays locked the inside tire is rotating at the speed as the outside tire.

Yeah, I know of them. I was including them in my "all similiar" statement in my first post. Maybe I should have specifically stated that. I spool can never be unlocked, which, I'm sure you know.

Yeah, I undestand. I would like a locker (Detroit), but can't really justify it on my daily driver/weekend off-roader. I dont really trust the electric lockers (I'm weird like that), and the ARB is way too expensive (but OBA would be nice).
