I have had DirecTV since 99 or 00 when I got sick of the poor service and biannual increases of Comcast. About once a year we may lose signal for a min or two when a storm gets really bad, unlike cable that would go out on average once a month for hours to days at a time. Only other time we have reception problems is when we get a real heavy snow, need to go out and brush off the dish and all is fine again.

2 years ago switched to the HD service, at first that was a nightmare as they didn't hook it up correctly, once that was resolved no problems at all.

Next door neighbor has Dish, he has had more issues with poor signal during storms than we do. Other than that no problems that I am aware of.

Our price is around 130 a month, we have 4 boxes, the service plan plus all movie channels and several other upgrades, same price through cable would be 170, very happy and will never go back to cable.
