Ive got DirecTV now and it sucks. Every time it rains or its windy I lose signal and half the time my local channels dont come in.
Im going back to cable when my 12-month contract is up. DirecTV isnt any cheaper than cable and cable is a lot more reliable.

Dish

I've had Dish for 10 years. Total package 89.95 a month. I only lose the signal when it gets really, really cloudy and or Storming, don't usually lose it for more than 10min.'s or so at the most.

We used to have Dish Network. We switched to cable because of the package deal they offered (TV/Internet/Phone for $99/mo.)

Our cable TV sucks. It would go out on the clearest of days. The problem seems to be solved ever since we got the HD box with the DVR...but only time will tell.

Dish Network was much, much better. The picture would only go out during the worst of storms. Mild thunderstorms would not effect it...neither would clouds, wind, or lightening. I wish I could go back...

Just wait. I cancelled my Dish Network 3 years ago and they still call me frequently trying to get me to go back. Sometimes as many as 4 times in an hour. When I tell them that unless its free I am not interested they say that they can offer me $10 a month off. They must be getting desperate for customers because they don't understand that I am sticking to cable now. Once we got high speed Internet we won't go without it again.

DirecTV been excellent reception and service for me 8 years here north of Seattle. The High Def clarity is very good over standard def, and will improve with their new satellites and MPEG2 compression rolling out country-wide. Total bill is $79 month, no HBO or SHO stuff subscribed. NFL Sunday Ticket is expensive but I CAN SMELL THE GRASS coming soon (thankyou John Madden.)

DISH is good, some cable is good. If I could get Verizon FIOS HD and Web cable here in the woods I would.

I've had Dish Network for the past 8 years, and no problems at all with it. For my local channels, I have an antenna on the roof. My neighbor has DirecTV and has nothing good to say about it at all, other than it's better than the huge antenna that he had in his yard when he had PrimeStar back in the mid '90's.

I've had both, and like DSN alot better. Direct TV kept screwing up our bill. They would charge us for packages we didn't have. Going to try out their internet service when I get my new computer.

Been a subscriber to Dish Network for almost 4 years. We chose Dish at the time, more than anything else, because Dish offered local channels and DirecTV did not. We have been very pleased, as one of the other posters stated, we only lose signal when there is a strong thunderstorm to the south or southwest. We have a completely unobstructed view of the southern and southwestern sky. When the signal is lost, it is not for an extended time.

The cable service in this area stinks. On a clear day tha cable would go out and sometimes stay out for 24+ hours. Don't see going back to cable for any reason, we have DSL for internet.

I have Directv for eight years. The previous model was bullet proof, but the one they have now with HD/DVR can and does suck at times. They are still working out all of the bugs with the compression ratio. I can tell you that it is hands down better than local cable.

I've had both but I've been with Dish for the past 8 years. I'm very happy with the service and have no plans to switch to Direct or cable anytime soon. The old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies here I guess.

PS. I sprang for the DVR (out of pocket) last year. Man, I love that thing. LOL

I hate Dish Network. Why? Because my wife works there (tech service rep) and I have to listen to her complain about the stoopid customers every night when she comes home. J/K. I like it 'cause it's free.

I just switched from Dish to Direct. I'm switching back to Dish when my contract with Direct ends. Direct advertises their package as cheaper. I got more channels for 63.54 per month total cost with Dish than I do for the $59 a month package with Direct. Direct says your cost is $59 per month then they charge you rent on your receivers of $5.95 a month with tax added to the total. It works out to about $20 more a month for Direct. I can't see any difference in picture quality. Dish sold my equipment to me instead of renting. I made a mistake switching to Direct. I didn't read the fine print. I'll go back to Dish as soon as I can get out of my Direct contract.
