New NorCal guy
I'm Sean, just moved to Chico(for a job) from Montana and thought I'd give a howdy to all my ford truck cohorts. I've got a '76 F250 that I've been working on for a couple of years with a 390(bored to 410), c6, 4:10's, and 37" Iroks. I drove the thousand miles here towing a 6x12 Uhaul trailer without one single glitch.
I'm wondering if anyone knows if there is a local 4x4 club here and how to get a hold of them. Also, I'm up for wheeling independently of clubs, if anyone else is, but I don't yet know where to go play.
I am also pretty handy with a wrench and know my way around an engine bay if anyone needs a hand working on their project.
Anyway, thanks for reading this. I hope to see you guys around.
I'm just over the Sierra Mountains from ya, over just South of Lake Tahoe.
Looking forward to meeting up with you at one of our meets. We have a project ongoing currently building a Comp Mudding truck, that you are certainly welcome to offer your 4x4 expertise. I'm sure you will enjoy the chapter here. We have been fairly successfull in building this young chapter, thanks to the leadership of our fearless chapter leader, WillyB.
See ya on the boards, Tim
This is a great forum. The members are great at sharing information, helping each other out, a little teasing, and having a good time. We have chapter project truck that we making into mud racer.
Sounds like you have a prety sweet truck. Your highboy is an inspiration for mine.

My truck is getting there.... Another couple thousand dollars and countless hours in the drivetrain to go(lockers, 4:56's, DUI ignition, transmission buildup) then I'll think about bodywork and paint. LOL Always an ongoing project. Just a matter of money and time...
I am in the middle of rebuilding my son's '73 highboy. We're basically down to U-joints now. Well, the yokes are pretty weak. Oh, and it has some bent up sheet metal... Oh, and it still has the stock 2bbl intake and carb. Wait! I forgot, it is a 360, DAD DIDN'T WANT TO PAY FOR A NEW CRANK! What am I gonna say next?
You're from Montana?
What a coincidence.
I'm not from Montana, but have heard of it.
Been there quite a few times, camping and fly fishing.
I'm a stones throw away from Chico; if you can throw a stone 180 miles.
Nice truck.
Wow! Another coincidence.
I also have 76 Ford truck, but it was built in 1981.
Again, welcome.
Nice rig you've got there...I think we can stop work on the project truck now, we'll just use yours!

Welcome Shameless, don't let these guys scare you away...especially Dan...he has a habit of lifting his shirt now and then, really is embarrassing to be around...

You can stop eyeballing my truck as your new mudder though...
This one has been run competitively prior to my ownership and I think that's part of the reason I've had to put so much time and money into it. Once I get it built the way I want and stop driving it daily I may run it again, but that's gonna be a little bit. That doesn't mean I won't go wheeling with it now, but it does mean that I won't stand on the throttle when I do.
What is the project mudder you guys are working on and where is it located?
BTW, there was another new member who joined us that lived up near you - he was from Montana, and had just started with the railroad. The problem was that he had a souped up Bronco, and there was just no way he could meet the smog requirements. He got so mad at California we never heard from him again!
The problem is that vehicles 1975 and older are exempt, while 1976 and newer ones must pass a smog test before you can license them. Worse, there is a visual inspection and you have to have all the original smog equipment.
I think in your area you just have that one test, and are pretty much free to make modifications afterwords. In some areas, you have to be tested every two years.
I would sure see where I stood smog-wise, especially before making any further modifications. Let us know if you need some of the smog equipment for the test - I think I have the pump and plumbing for some of it.
I'm going to just play it like that and hope for the best for now. If in the future I need to get smog checked I'll take you up on that offer *****. Thanks.
BTW.. You guys have undertaken a pretty large project with that 2wd truck! Let me know if you could use an extra hand. Once I get my motorcycle back together I'd love to have a reason for a road trip.
Would you believe they were going out in the mud, but didn't want to get their new rigs dirty? They were so proud of their off-road ability and the hills they could climb, that it was not until they made it back to town that they discovered a couple of the trucks had forgot to lock the front hubs - - - - -
Welcome Sean. You'll love this group of guys. There is always something to talk about and laugh about with this group.
Hey, when is the next work day? Mike ..... Motor just about done? Dan .... Were you ever able to find those motor mounts? How about the steering link? Were you able to get that piece you wanted fabricated. I'm ready to start wrenching again. I know I'm not the project lead but I might have to get out my whip and crack it a bit.
LOL !!!! I wasn't born a Georgia Cracker fur nuttin'.
It's been a couple of weeks so, I'd like to help with installing the motor / driveline etc... (Insert icon of mechanics working here)
