I am a compresor setup that I am trying to power up. First of all it is for a airhorn and I have a 30amp fuse coming from the battery to the relay. Then im using a upfitter for the pressure switch. But every time that I start the car when the compresor is running, of I turn the compressor on when the car is running and I go down the road, the fuse that goes to the battery blows, every single time. What am i doing wrong here....
2. Hot wire leaves relay at # 30 and runs to compressor
3. # 86 goes to ground (frame)
4. # 85 goes to pressure switch on tank to open and close (87 / 30 above).
You need 12 volts accessory power (key on) to go to the other leg of the pressure switch at tank. When the pressure switch calls for air the switch sends 12 volts to relay to make connection from battery to compressor via #87 and #30 above.
I don't know what a upfitter is.

Reason: typo
Your compressor should be on a relay switched circuit, an upfitter switch would be a good use for this. It should be wired like the POWER TO TURN CIRCUIT ON picture, with the upfittter switch being the switch and the ON WITH SWITCH ON light being the compressor and nothing connected to the ON WHEN SWITCH IS OFF position.
The pressure switch shold also be wired with a relay. You need some sort of momentary push button for this. It should be wired like the GROUND TO TURN CIRCUIT ON picture, with the pressure switch in the ON WHEN SWITCH IS ON position and nothing in the ON WHEN SWITCH IS OFF position.
Common horn relays can be purchased at any auto parts store.
I put a toggle switch in my 12 volt accessory to pressure switch line so that I could kill the compressor anytime I wanted from the cab. I can't understand having a "momentary" switch involved in wiring the compressor. I'm not saying I know it all; I just don't get it. Excuse my ignorance in advance.
you don't need a momentary switch
the wire from your cab switch should go to the control side of the relay
I don't mean to come across as argumentative. However, I ran (and don't know why I wouldn't have run) the accessory power (after toggle) to the pressure switch. The accessory power then travels to the relay through the pressure switch. If the pressure switch is satisfied, no power to relay; thus, no power to compressor.
actually mine goes from my switch in the cab, to the pressure switch, from there, to the switched side of the relay. If i turn the switch on and the tank is full, nothing happens.
I'm using a 90 amp relay, with an 80 amp inline fuse. The relay main wires are 8 gauge from battery to relay to compressor
maybe this will help
