Extra Headlight/Driving Lights question

Boys, I was going to buy a Road armor bumper and stick a buttload of lights on there but for now, I have to wait as I dont' have that kind of money. HOWEVER, I am NOT satisfied with my brights and it's not enough for me.

Can I please get suggestions to some lights to get to improve what I see that do NOT take any drilling or any other modifications to the bumper/plastic and HOPEFULLY something that I could possibly use in the future for the grille guard/bumper.

IF I get the bumper I'll probably get round ones but now I think rectangular would look better I think...?

Maybe a couple of sets of small dirving lights stuck in between the horizontal bars/plastic in the grille on my 05 v10 Limited?

Something not too expensive and by the way, I don't want those really blue lights as I think they bother people.
A whiter light is fine but not that really blue stuff.

I would appreciate DIRECT links to a product if you have it and of course, the reason WHY I should get those.

I plan on putting at least a few pointing to the front and a couple slightly of to the sides for when I turn.

Thanks

George

Racer, are you talking about the bull bar looking thing and if so, how much was it and how much for the lights?

Also, when you attach it, does it touch the grille in any way?

Thanks

George

the light bar was about $100. it only attaches to the bumper bolts. the ones where the tow hooks are. it does not touch, or come in contact with the rest of the truck. the hid lights, well, since they are hid lights, they are pretty expensive. they were $600 for the pair. you can buy cheaper hid lights, but yu get what you pay for. my other suggestion would be to buy a pair of kc daylighters. but get the competition ones. they are 365 thousand candle power. i used to have 5 on the roof of my dodge. they are really bright. and they run about $60 per light. but get the stainless housings. no plastics, no chrome junk either. that way they wont rust..

Guiri,

KC (what I use) and Randy Ellis Design both make a light bar that mounts using bumper bolts and sits lower than the bar RacerX7775 uses. Four tabs for four lights and I use them all on mine.

The PIAAs are a dual filament bulb and the Pro Comps are single. I have each pair aimed differently for different jobs, the PIAAs have a wide beam that I have for close work and the Pro Comps for distance and they bring home the bacon. I have less into my lights than Racer and I did get what I paid for...

All of this was done just so I can see what's out there, and I would rather see it than hit it.

Why don't you upgrade your bulbs to PIAA's or Silverstars first. A lot cheaper than bolting on a lightbar and adding more lights.

Racer, thanks.

As for the stainless ones. I really hate shiny stuff. If I get black plastic would they brake that easily?

Thanks, George

Monsta, I'm not sure if I would get enough out of that because I DO like to get a lot of light at night but do you have any direct links to show me?

Thanks, George

Diver bro (X-Hibition),

Do you have any direct links to the bar and the different lights that I can look at?

I WOULD like dual filament so that I can have lows and brights so that would suit me better. Also, I wouldn't mind a couple for shorter distance that I can aim at the sides a little bit. Not only do I not have the money for HID's right now but I'm a bit scared of using them here as I'll use them mostly on the street and I don't want to cops to nail me for it but I DO want light. Another reason why I don't want light that's too blue. I don't like it when I GET it in my eyes but also, I don't want it attracting too much attention.

Thanks

George

george, i cant even remeber the brand of my light bar. i got it somewhere in CA for only $79. it does only have 3 tabs for lights though.

X, what i meant about "you get what you pay for", i meant that if you buy a set of $40 lights, they are probably junk. i said that i had 5 of the daylighters on my dodge. they are great lights.

the only reason that i laid out so much for my lights, was that i wanted the hid lights. that way, i only had to run 2 little 16 ga wires. plus, the ballasts and ignitors are mounted on my header panel behind my grill. plus, they dont get hot..

Alright boys, here's what happened tonight. Me and my buddy are driving home and I turned the brights on and he too agrees that they suck. Here's the thing, I bought these bulbs on ebay and it said 140w. I didn't think they were very bright when I got them and I didn't see the difference between them and my regular ones. Ie, I initially just replaced ONE of them so I had one each on at the same time.

I DID like the color better on these so I replaced the other one too but it SEEMS to me that they are NOT as bright now. Is it possible that because I bought cheesy stuff on ebay, they just ran ok for a little while?

Things were so much simpler in the old days when an H4 was an H4 and that was it. NOw they have different connectors for different brands and they have these bulbs that they SAY are equivalent to something else.

BEfore it was 55,80, 100 watts or whatever and that was it.

I had a Volvo with a total of 700watts of brights and trust me, it WAS bright and that was in the old days when we didn't have white or blue lights.

So, can you guys give me actual links to bulbs I can get and maybe light bars?

I wouldn't mind changing the bulbs for something good but I can't find anything that's high in wattage and I don't understand the EQUIVALENT to and I don't trust it either..

I looked at auto zone just to check and found a couple of KC's for 100 bucks which looked ok when I held them in front of the X do I can definitely afford a couple of them or even four and a 100-200 dollar light bar so that'll work.

I do have an old set of rectangular driving lights that I may add on for now and they have 100w H3's with them I think.

Can I get something that will give me both low and high beams so that I can run the LOW's connected to the normal high beams and just hit a switch to get the EXTRA headlights to come on HIGH for even more power but so the cops won't F with me for too much light?
That way I can just hit the switch when I'm in the country or whatever.

IF so, what lights am I looking at?What's the max wattage available and so on?

Also, are there switches out there that cannot really be left on? Ie, when I turn the engine off and start again, the switch will NOT be on I can only run the extra lights on their LOW position. Is this even possible?

Thanks again and if you have direct links to places with good prices, please post them.

Thanks

George

Ok, I looked at some lights and here are a few questions.

I assume DRIVING lights have a wider pattern and the off road lights a more narrow pattern?

If I want some light on the side of the road in curves, etc, I need driving lights or FOG lights?
http://www.autoanything.com/lights/65A3250A0A0.aspx

Also, I take it the SLIM lights look better than these?
http://www.autoanything.com/lights/65A3261A0A0.aspx

I kind of like the ideas of these as they come in different versions but look the same and I like the idea that they come in Titanium color which I think will look good on my grey/pueblo gold (looks grey X
http://www.autoanything.com/lights/65A3250A0A0.aspx

Mind you, on this site the light bars for the X were close to 300 bucks.

Also, I DID like this lightbar..
http://www.randyellisdesign.com/FORD...UCTS/index.htm
I'm guessing they'll fit the X.

NOw, I also found these which are half the price and come in different sizes with the same design. I only see them in driving lights though.

Also, will 6, 7 or 8" lights look better? Opinions?
I really like the fact that these lights come in three different sizes. Gives me a choice to play around with if I should want to.

Still haven't found any cheap light bar that I light though.

The extra lights are a good idea. Have you ever thought about mounting them behind the rear of the grill gard?

Google up "Kelvin Scale" to learn about light color. Don't worry too much about wattage right now. Plus, if you go too high you're gonna need an upgraded harness. Doubtful those lights are 140W or you'd have a post about why your harness & plugs are melted.

Hybrids, what the hell are you doing up? If you're still up, gimme a call
Do you mean put behind the grille so to speak? INSIDE?

Monsta, I do know the difference in light temperature as I used to be a photographer but will 100w and say 4200 kelvin and 100w at 8000 kelvin LOOK different or will there be say MORE candlepower with the higher color temperature?

I understand that if it looks different (brigther) it DOES serve the purpose but still?

What model number H4's should I look for in the Silverstars and what wattage?

Are you saying I need a different wiring harness if I cram a few extra lights on it?

Hell, I didn't do shi* to my Volvo and I had a total of 700 watts on the high beams without a problem. You telling me that this much truck can't handle it?

How much for a different harness?

Also, I asked a dude in a store here in Charlotte that does truck upgrades and I said something about the harness and he said that if you KNOW how to hook them up this is not a probem...???

Thanks

George
