c6 swap for....?
I'm almost finished working on my 86 f150 w/ 300. I had the c6 in it rebuilt, for the time being (friend did it for a good price), but I want more than 3 gears. I'd like at least a 4 w/ od. What could I look into put into it, with minimal changes? Would a e40d work? If not, what would? It doesn't have to be all mechnical (ala c6)....

An E4OD would work with your 4.9, but requires a computer to run it. There are stand alone computers available but are pretty expensive. You might consider an AOD which only requires a throttle pressure cable to signal load for shifting. Any transmission off a 4.9, 5.0, or 5.8w will bolt up with minimal modification.
