Hey guys! The rear view mirror on my 97 F-150 fell off the windshield yesterday. I bought some glue to redo it but I can't figure out how to remove the little metal wedge that the mirror stalk fastens to.
Anyone had this problem and could you please tell me how to remove the little wedge?
Thanks.
There should be a little slot between the wedge and the mirror base inside that slot is a little metal tab that is spring loaded and holds the wedge in place. You have to go fishing in there to push the tab down and slide the wedge out.Or tap the wdge out with a hammer and destroy the tab then get a new wedge.
Thanks for the reply but I wound up removing the metal wedge and afterwards managed to "spring" up the metal band that fastens over the mirror base.
I glued the metal wedge back to my windshield but plan on filing down the bottom of the mount so that it just slides down over the wedge without having to force the metal "clamp" back over the wedge.
Talk about Ford tough! I have glued several mirrors back on other vehicles but have never, ever run across one that mounts this way! The engineer that designed that crap should be hung!
