Anyone have any experience with glass-thru CB antenna's?
I am meaning like cell phone antenna's where one peiece is on the inside of the vehicle with the cord that screws on the end and then the other side goes outside the vehicle and "covers" the other end......
ive used them and they junk, not worth the money. if ya need a good antena and dont want to drill holes look at a wilson 1000,500,lil wil can all be had in magnet mount.depending on how many watts ya run. my wifes got a lil wil on her s-10 pushin 300 watts and it does real good but it max's the antena out its only rated for 300

Dont waste your time and money. You probably wouldnt be able to talk across the street. If you dont want to drill any holes they make mounts that will go under the bumper and then the coax can run under the vehicle and through the floor board. I have a 2 meter 5/8 wave Ham antenna mounted in the front corner of my truck bed. The only holes I have from it are the 3 screws that bolt the bracket to the inside lip of the bed. There is no difference in the way the antenna mounts and the coax is run between the ham antenna and a CB antenna. It actually looks like a CB antenna but will not operate on the 11 meter CB band. What ever antenna you go with make sure the SWR is below a 1.5:1. The best way to get a good set up is to go to a truck stop and find out where a good CB radio shop is. Your quality of signal getting out has more to do with a properly adjusted antenna than with having a big radio.
I have no experience with the style your reffering to. On my pickup I always ran a magnetic mount k-40 base with a 5 ft whip. I now run an 8 ft whip, spring mounted, with a high quality co-ax all pushed by a galaxy 88. In my heavy truck I run dual wilson 5000's into a three way with a galaxy 88 all pushed by a texas star 660.
The latter will TALK. It's unneeded but I like it and wasted all the money when I shouldn't have.
I have since found that a radio talks due to the ant. set-up, not the radio. It doesn't hurt to have a bigger radio but a stock cobra 25 will talk along way with a good ant. coax set up.
If you want no holes and a quick set up, take a magnetic base(inner coiled), a good ant. and make a ground wire to go from the bottom of the ant and run it with the coax and ground it somewhere. The ground will allow you to use a rag or towel(a thin one) under the base so the paint isn't harmed. Run that and attach to radio, and go to town.
