For a daily driver, it will work well...though I wonder how it will effect alternator life. I would not put it on a vehicle which I was using for pulling loads.

Electric fans are not recommended for primary diesel engine cooling when the combined gross vehicle weight (CGVW) exceeds 18,000 pounds (truck, trailer and load)

i agree take you will save 27 hp from removing the clutch fan what thy dont say is that the extra hp use to pull the load on the alt. it olny save hp when fans or not running if it 'would move the same amount of air it would use more hp' to the lost of efficiency in wiring. if u don't tow or ride in mud u may save hp

I already max out my alternator (not all the time), so I can't afford the extra load (without one of those $300 upgrade alts). Sitting still is when I normally draw my heavy load just when the fans are needed and when the alt is already just idling. The fast-idle tune from DP would help, of course...

I have never had good luck with any electric driven fans on cars especially..I have replaced plenty on different cars my wife drove...
I don't like the idea that 2 electric motors are keeping my diesel cool.

On the other hand...I guess my clutch fan could go anytime also...Hmmm

Well, I'll never be pulling anything over 6k lbs. Maybe 8k if I can afford the boat. Also, the X is two wheel drive so no offroad involved. The main reason would be the nice a/c output. I live in Central Florida and it is f***in' hot, especially with the thing in a parking lot for nine hours!

Go over to TDS and ask imelmo what he thinks of flex-a-lite electric fans.
he decided to run them with his new 7.3 that was puttin out about 700 ponies, and the flex-a-lites could not draw enough air for themselves and burnt up, wich in turn ran his motor hot(3 times) during the 100 mile tow competition at Diesel Power Challenge.

Horton clutch is the way to go! (#996123)
It is what U.S. Gear based the Cyclone on.

MADVAN, I did a search on that part number and it references several additional international part numbers that are required. Is this an electronic clutch? Can you elaborate on the process a little more? I am familiar with the cyclone fan, is this just a DIY version?

This would be a DIY. You would use your fan on the electric clutch. As for control. You can add sensors for a control such as coolant,ac,trans fluid (international). Or just a relay with switch on throttle for a on/off/auto control. It would be the same clutch as the cyclone without the crappy control it had. The only flaw with the cyclone was the control. I went with a on/off/on switch with relay for contol.
Operation is fan on, fan off, fan control by idle val switch.

Why not just add an electric fan to the front of the truck (in front of the radiator and evaporator, that you can toggle on/off through a switch & relay? That way you know you can cool that big block down and you have better ac when you want it.
