Adding interior grab handles
I notice in some gallery pics that certain models in the '98-'00 vintage have grab handles on the pillar (I believe grab handles may have been standard on the 4.0L's with XLT?) I would like to know how these are attached and if I can add them to my '99. Do I need to replace the pillar trim to fit the handles or can I drill holes? I was planning to visit a local boneyard to see what might be available.

My 04 xlt 4x4 with the 4.0 has them on both sides of the A-pilars. You will need new trim pieces designed for the handles as they have xtra strength attaching points, not just drilled holes. The handles are designed to take your weight as you hoist yourself up into the truck.

The grab handles get secured to brackets underneath with some self-tapping screws. I'm not sure if the brackets are there on Rangers that didn't get the handles from the factory. So you may need them.
