Ok so i am droping a 94,000 mile 6.0 motor into an 03" which had a motor that got a couple of cylinders scrupped. So the turbo came seperate off the new motor and i put it on today(O i was wondering if anyone knows the size of the meteric bolt that bolts the turbo to the braket, there are 3 of them) So my question is should i pour some oil through the oil inlet of the turbo.
What other things should i do besides change the oil?
O and is the pump electric so when i turn the key on it will pump fuel all through the lines so i am not cranking for 1 minute or do i need to do something else?
Depending on how long your used motor sat around you can expect long crank times on a new startup. Not necessarily because of the fuel but because of the oil pressure coming up in the HPOP system that fires the injectors. The fuel pump is electric, yes, and it helps to make sure that the secondary fuel filter on top of the motor is full, but it's pretty normal to be able to crank these for a minute or so with no problem. The starter is a pretty tough bird. Don't expect it to fire like a gas motor where you're putting some gas down the Carb. It doesn't quite work like that. It has to be pumping oil from the LPOP to the rest of the motor before it fires anyway, so the turbo will be oiled by the time it cranks.
There is a turbo install kit you can get from Ford that has the bolts, spacers, gaskets and o-rings for the turbo but I"m not sure what the part number is.
Ok do you know if the torque convertor pulls out then and we bolt it to the back of the flywheel, then stick the engine in.
Also what is the torque rating on the bolts that bolt the flywheel to the motor( Not bolts that bolt the torque convertor to flywheel but i need that torque spec too?)
We are dropping it in today so hopefully all goes well and i might be on here a lot asking questions.
hotroddsl i am not certian on what you are saying. Yesterday we tried putting the engine in with the convertor on it put we couldn't so we put it back in the trans the put the engine in. We go the engine in after a while and started hooking everything up then we relized we forgot to put the down pipe in. Is there any way to put the down pipe in without taking the engine out again becuase we tried to put it in but it wouldn't fit past one spot (the passenger side exhaust pipe right before the y pipe). Is looks really hard to take just that pipe out and then once the down pipe is in it will be really hard to put it back in. So is there another way to get the down pipie in?
What hotroddsl is saying is that if you try to put the engine in with the torque convertor bolted to the flexplate, you WILL damage the transmission pump. It has to be indexed correctly before it works....and if it's not indexed correctly, bolting the engine and transmission together will just force parts of the tranny pump together and then you'll be doing it all over again.
Don't know about the downpipe issue...I drive a 7.3
Ok well we put the engine in without the torque convertor on the felx plate went in pretty tight. Took us 4 hours to put the downpipe in and mount the turbo. Now we just have to do all the stuff up front and we should be good to go.
