My cousin is going to look at a 95' powerstroke, 5 speed, 4x4, 4 door today and was wondering what to look for when he sees it. I am not familiar with them so I thought I woulld ask you guys.
I told him to look for shaft play in the turbo
Listen to how it starts up because it could be the oil pump that they use for the injectors going bad (?)
Any advice would be helpful so I can relay it to him.
driveshaft play, check all fluids, drive it to see how the clutch feels and overall how the truck runs, check for leaks on anything, air filter, fuel filter, batt cables. thats all that comes to mind right now. thats basically everything that i would look for
This is a good reference for starters. That was written for the SD's, so ignore the comments on checking the intercooler boots since the OBS doesn't have an intercooler (unless the current owner has added one).
Is a 95' and alright motor because it is the second year they made the powerstroke. What are its weak points?
Rods I would suspect and head gasket failure.
My cousin was asking also what kind of power you can make out of them with just a tuner and injectors
Thanks
Adam
95 is a good motor, there's no reason not to trust the rods or head gaskets.
With a tuner and injectors you can probably get into the upper 300's I'd guess.
x2 with superduty. i just rolled over 200*** on my rig and she gets run hard. unless my foot is on fuel save mode lol. gaskets are fine and the truck runs awesome. my dad bout it new in 95 a half year after the Powerstroke came out. it has never failed us
