I have just bought a 56 F 100 and need help please.
I used the VIN decoder on FTE and no sucess. It is a Canadian built truck but VIN(serial #) starts with #'s as opposed to F1------.
The only other unusual thng is there is only 1 door lock-in the passenger side, and driver side looks original, nothing altered or patched up.
The single lock isn't unusual. Mine has the same setup and I recall reading somewhere the buyer had to specifically order a driver-side lock. Safety feature, I believe.
Welcome to the forum.
This feature is not unusual, single door lock on passenger side is standard. The second lock was part of the Custom Cab option, or could be ordered on the standard cab truck.
As far as the vin # are you saying yours does not start with an F or an M?
Most Ford products thru 1948 had only a right side door lock cylinder. Stubborn 'ol Henry wanted it this way, as he felt that standing in the street locking/unlocking the door was unsafe. When Henry died in 1947, changes came rapidly. Passenger cars got lock cylinders on both front doors in 1949, and the left door lock cylinders were available on trucks beginning in the early 1950's. By 1957, all trucks had a left door lock cylinder.
I also have a Canadian 56 and i got my VIN decoded by Ford Canada recently. Is yours something like the following?: 4831010TK#####
If so, the 4 = Ford, 83=Pickup & Express, 1st 10=F100, 2nd 10=110" wheelbase, T=1956 Model year and K = Oakville Ontario assembly Plant. The #'s are the number of units made in that year.
