Front Differental Aids

I am having my front axle leak fixed and got to thinking about putting in something like a L/S or a locker while they are in there.

Who makes limited slips cheap for the Dana 60? I am having a hard time finding ANYTHING for it which is hard to believe because it is so common.

Jspafford,

If it is one worth installing it won't be cheap. Also since it is going in a front axle, you are going to want a selective locker unless you never plan to use it on road and even for off road use a full time L/S or Locker in the front has more downsides then upsides. The best choice in the front is a selective locker. Not cheap but they work very well.

Front lockers are an invitation for broken axles/joints if you get off in the real off-road marbles.

I put a Detroit Trutrac in my Bronco's front axle, and an Auburn Electric locker in the rear. I use the rear locker when the going get rough...and the Trutrac assists when needed.

I put a Trutrac in the rear of my F-350, and it's really helps in the milder stuff. I left the front diff stock, as I carry a camper most of the time, and really don't get into rough enough stuff to need a LS up front.

I think a locker in the rear and a LS up front is the best solution for most running, unless you get into some axle modifications to beef things up...

You have a lot of choices.

ARB. Sweet but will set you back around $1,000 with the air compressor. One nice thing is when it's turned off you still have regular 4wd. Downside is there's no manual shutoff, so if you lose your compressor or something else goes wrong there's a chance you'll stay locked in 4wd.

Detroit locker. About $550 and not street friendly at all. Perfect for rear applications though.

OX locker. cable actuated locker, around $1,000 and comes with a heavy duty diff cover. Cable can be a PIA though and you have to adjust it every so often.

TrueTrac. Around $450 and very street friendly and far better than the factory front end, but it's the most limited limited slip.

Lock-rite. These are fairly cheap, around $400-500 and work great. The ratcheting around corners can get annoying, but they are extremely strong and very effective.

No-slip. Pretty much identical to the lock-rite except updated and a little quieter. This is what I'm putting in my D60. Some people don't like them in them in the winter, but I think they handle fine. And off-road...they're awesome.
