Leaky Tranny
What's happening,
Been having problems with my BII. After running it for a while (i made it about 30 miles) at highway speeds (60 or higher) long enough for it to get warm, the transmission begins to leak like a civ. It still runs fine when I add more fluid but it just leaks. it's out of the top of the bellhousing close to the engine. When it is sitting or cold there is no leakage but only when i drive it and the trans/engine get warm. any suggestions? is my tranny shot or can it be cheaply salvaged? or do you think it's just something easy like the trans cooler.
Thanks alot

The only two things I can think of that would leak right there is the vent and the dipstick tube. You may want to at least drain the transmission, change / clean the filter and pan, and refill with the proper amount of fresh fluid. The only reasons why it would leak there is if the filter is clogged, or it's overfilled, as far as I know. I would also advise installing an aftermarket external fluid cooler, to help extend the life of your transmission and keep it running cooler -- this mod would also increase the amount of fluid you'll need to refill the transmission, but you can install it prior to refilling and then use the proper amount of fluid and add from there, unless the instructions with the cooler tell you exactly how much extra fluid to add. Anyone else have any thoughts? Hope this helps.

when you say top of bellhousing..do you mean on top side of motor? or do you mean on the bottom between the engine and tranny by the oil pan? If it's the bottom then it's a front main seal. They are common for that thing going bad. Unfortunately the only way to replace that $5 seal is to pull the transmission..I've done mine twice in one year...But deffinately install a LARGER aftermarket tranny cooler to help keep it cool.
