Just got back from deployment and left my Bronco with a reputable indoor storage facility while i was gone but upon return as i was driving back home i realized my 4X4 light was dimly illuminated.. not on but just dimly, and now once my truck is warmed up the trans feels like it drops into neutral and jams back into gear. when she's cold she runs perfect but once its warm or driven longer than 20 mins it starts to slip again. i have already gone through and done a fluid and filter change of the trans, i just changed my MLPS sensor and updated it to the new style harness, and changed my VSS sensor on the rear diff but still no good. could it be something with my transfer case or something else internal with the trans? i get no leaks at all and the trans was rebuilt about 49k miles ago back in 2004... this is driving me crazy! and its my daily driver. none of these problems existed before i stored my vehicle for 7 months.
Mud wasps and other bugs like to build nests around breather tubes.
This can cause an erroneous fluid level reading.
It can show full but be a few quarts low.
Pretty sure its even a little over serviced, i drained the transfer case, torque converter and dropped the pan and filter and refilled with about 15qts of Mercron V
Did you refill the transfer case? Your post above does not make that clear.
The transmission dip stick has two holes, the fluid should be between those holes when cold. When the trans is at operating temp the fluid should be on the hatched area.
Do not overfill.

I did refill the transfer case, filled until fluid started trickling out of the fill port.
I have never service rebuilt the later electronic aod. it sounds like solenoid pack in the pan got power left onto it and damaged it or burned it out just like if you leave the key in the on position with current going to a ignition coil will destroy it.
just drop the pan and pull that and clean and inspect everything with electronics cleaner or map fluid sensor cleaner. id replace all the springs and clean and inspect the valve body just drop that out too and put a trans go kit in it with the new solenoid and thats about all you can do from underneath it unless its a mechanical problem. and honestly it should be gone through if this is your daily driver trans fluid is really hard on the seals. maybe try a synthetic oil and new filter now that you got it running again like you would do with a break in maybe start draining and replacing oil serveral times....theres is no way to get all the old fluid out in one dump and fill 4 or 5 quarts to start after duming the fluid and ive heard run rottella 15w 40 conventional then you need a helper to put thier foot on the brake and E brake on, be ready to have the next gallon of rottella ready poor in 3 quarts after you have the helper start it and go through the gears while you slowly add oil too it. run that as you would normally drive it through the gears for about 20 minutes. then while its hot dont remove the pan but get a glove towel and bucket then dump out two quarts and plug it real quick then it will need to be in reverse for the next clutch pack to fill while you add in the last two quarts. that procedure is your best shot especially if you do it with these following steps. you still have a rebuilt unit even with 49k its been ten years so its going to need some quick care. follow your service manual fluid specs but dont over fill and listen to the pump suck up the oil from under the pan with your mechanics stethoscope
as well ford can service it with a standard refresh kit they are very reasonable from online warehouse vendors for a rebuild kit in the low end or go with some upgraded frictions for the clutch packs if you get a full rebuild kit vs stock
definitely not the transfer case and that can just be filled with viynal tube and hand pump or sqweeze the bottle with that tube down into it and not to hi. sounds like you did that fine.
