If you have a manual transmission and are looking for an easy simple setup try this out. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...ml#post4707825

Any questions you can post and I will try and clarify. I also give two references in there steve baz's site, and a write up by quick or dead. Both are excellent reading expecially if you have an automatic tranny. good luck

Yes, the hiss is air passing by the Valve.

I know some people think black smoke looks cool and it is fun when the guy behind you is being a jerk but seriously it is such a waste of ponies, not to mention what it does to the environment!

I will never figure out why some people want lots of black smoke, we spend hundreds of thousands of dollars researching turbo chargers to clear the black smoke up and convert it into HP but still people want the smoke???

To heck with the environment and the future of our kids and grandchildren... "my truck smokes!"

each to their own I guess??

Well if you want blake smoke then injectors and a hot chip are the way to go. Stage 2's will make it smoke more so then stage 1's. However the more fuel you dump in these trucks the higher your EGT's are gonna be so you will need to upgrade intake as well as upgrade downpipes and exhaust systems to help reduce EGT's. If you go with injectors and a hot chip your definetly gonna need an EGT gauge to monitor temps. If you have an auto trans then your gonna wanna be sure and upgrade valve bodies are do a shift kit to help keep the tranny alive. Good luck and god speed, lol

Cowboy Steve

P.S.- Cheapest injects to buy are the DIY kits. I went with beans diesel performance myself and I havent looked back yet. I two am gonna be upgrading injectors again to stage 3's. Somebody has to give Dockboy and Lukecline a run for their money

I agree with Cowboy on the exhaust, intake etc... but this will only take you so far, the turbo will be so far out of its effeciency range you will be overspinning it causing premature failure. Also running a turbo this far out of its effeciency range will induct hot expanded air limiting how much air will acually get into the cylinders, this will not only rob you of HP but will raise EGT's drastically!

Go to Beansdieselperformance.com and check out their inject prices. I dont remember prices right off the top of my head.

Dave is right on the turbo deal. Our stock turbos Are only so efficent. They will not last with injects, its only a matter of time before the stock thrust bearing gives way do to un-equal drive pressures. Stock turbos will only move so much air as well, where as an aftermarket unit will help to burn more of the fuel the injectors induce to the motor, thus creating more ponies. In the end its all about air and fuel. Good luck

Cowboy Steve

Be careful with the back pressure when towing too much will make rockets out of your heads.

A properly designed exhaust brake that controls back pressure will not hurt the heads, the head gasket is not the problem. The risk is running more back pressure than the exhaust valve springs are rated for, for example if the exhaust valve springs are rated for 45PSI and you exceed that you run the risk of sucking one of the valves open and slapping it with the piston.

Most major name brands of exhaust brakes (BD, Pac, Banks) have their brakes carefully regulated to prevent this. Our BD Brake uses industry leading variable orifice technology to control back pressure, 25 years with out a floated valve!
