I've started the build on my F250 and I think I'm gonna go with 4.56 or 4.88 gears. It has 3.50s in it now I think. Will any D60 carrier work in the front D60 diff? I think I'll probably weld both ends right now, it will see VERY little street driving and I'm pretty low on cash
The carrier split is at 4.56, so if you wanted to run 4.88's most people would buy a new carrier. However, they do offer a different thickness of gears for a 4.56 & down carrier, that allows you to run 4.56+ gears.
I'm trying to remember the website I dealt with, they are good guys and give free shipping, not to mention the best price... When I find the link, I'll post it.
Thanks for the link RawPower. It looks like it would be easiest to just order thick gears to fit on the carriers I have already. I need to buy the gears anyway
To save money, you can use the standard gear with a ring gear spacer. I've seen people use them, I just don't know how strong they are. They are only a few bucks, so if you're on a budget, the spacer is an option.
Good news!! My parts truck has a LS Dana 60 rear! I'll swap that in with the thicker 4.88 gears. Weld the front and I'm good to go. I swapped some rear springs that I had I think from a mid 80s van onto the front. Ended up with 6+ inches of lift just from that. We'll probably move the front spring mounts forward and down to help with the pinion angle. I'll post some pics tomorrow
