My friend has a 79 Bronco that is completly stock. He wants to know how much lift you can have and still leave everything stock, original driveshafts, etc. I've heard 4inches is the max but im not 100% sure. Is that enough for 35inch boggers to work when the suspension is completly flexed or will there be some fender rubbin? Thanks in advance.
I would go 4 with 33's, Since everything else is stock, no sense putting strain on the old running gear.
Or go for the over the top deal and replace everything!
Oh wait, that's my dream!
Keep it simple for now- 4 inch with 33's - If things start to break then I would modify and strengthen - JMHO.
I wouldn't go over 4" either. If he is set on 35's he could put some fender flares on it. I've got 35's under my 83 with a 4" lift and flares and I've got plenty of room. Not to mention the tires look like they fit the wheel wells better.
I agree with yall on only goin 4inch lift with 33's, its alot less stressful on all the other parts. Do the 33's look small with a 4inch lift, or do they fit the wheel wells fairly well? He also wants to know if you can get away with using 33's and no lift? Right now he is kinda goin through the options and figurin out what is the cheapest and best for what he wants. This truck will not be a heavy mudder, it will mostly stay on the road and sometimes go through a mud hole time to time.
I noticed on the Bronco Graveyard site they have 2.5inch suspension lift kits where all you do is put in new larger coil springs. Would you be able to use the stock shocks with this setup? If so I think that lift kit would be just what he is lookin for. Im new to lift kits so I dont know alot bout em, but the kit I looked at only has the 2 coils for the front if im correct, why not any for the back, wont this make it lower in the back? Thanks for the help

The truck come from the factory higher in the back, so this would just level it out.
So put some new 2" or so lift coil springs, and I'd suggest some new C bushings about 2-4 degrees, and new shocks for a 2" lift, b/c more than likely the stock shocks are shot! If he has a dual shock set up, up front, all he needs is one per side, the whole two per side is just more expensive, and actually causes a rough ride.
If he would have a problem with the front being higher than the back he could put some 1-2" blocks in the back with new u bolts, and that would be a very cheap 2" lift, and he'd be good to go.
The best part I think of upgrading the suspension on my Bronco was the new radius arms. I don't know if all the kits have new ones or not, but I know my Rancho kit came with new ones. It tightened my turning radius and increased my wheel articulation. Yes, you can just boost it up with some new springs, but if you replace the whole thing, you wind up with 20+ year newer technology in suspension components. I also used Skyjacker Softride springs for the back instead of helper springs. My springs were too old and weak to add the stress of helper springs. I have three inches of Rancho in the front and four inches of Skyjacker in the back because the Broncos tend to sag after a while especially when you've got 400 horsepower under the hood.
Thanks to all of yall for the information yall have given me. Iv'e only been on this site since Feb. but I have posted only a few times. Thanks to everybody that runs this site and all the members that help keep it goin strong.
