You could fab lowered suspension mounting points. Unless you have fab-ability, you would probably be better off to just buy a lift kit. Even then, the suspension is 20 years old, so a new one wouldn't hurt it.
I recomend the skyjacker lift with all the springs. I have the 6 inch lift on my 77 f 150 and it works great. It is not cheap but worth the extra money.
There's a place that sells 6" kits in my 4-wheel magazine for around $250 US. I can't remember who makes it or where my magazine is, but I think it comes with front springs, rear blocks, U-bolts, and the front axle bushings. I'll try to find my magazine.
The magazine I was thinking of is Offroad Adventures. The kit is made by Skyjacker. It appears that it's $268 (US) for a 6" kit. which is front coils, pitman arm, and rear blocks. If you opt for the rear springs you can tack on another $400 or so. Check out www.fourwheelsupply.com

do a shakel reversal in the rear which will give u about four inches and then buy six inch coils for the front, all u need to do is make up the two inches in the rear, I would use blocks.
Mine's got 2x4 tubing welded as spacers under the coil spring perches and the radius arm mounts with custom crossmembers to hold it all together fits 35" bfg's with 8" between the tire and fender! cheap
