I know from time to time trucks will throw an odd code you clear it and it never comes back, keeping that in mind I was looking for some solid advice on my egr code.
Code P0401 is in my computer now and I am debating on:
The clean the egr and reinstall method ( 1- 2 hrs depending on how dirty) and hope that solves the problem (great post in the tech section very thorough but I have had little luck cleaning the egrs on gassers)
Replace with updated egr valve keep old one clean at my leisure to reinstall if (rather) when the code lights up again
Deleting the whole egr setup with the sct? and egr tube (this is my least approach just for the what if factor)
My truck is an '03 f350 with the 6.0 and overall I have had little problem with it

This is my vote. I however would get an up-pipe that takes the EGR cooler out of the exhaust stream, clean the EGR valve with CARB cleaner (not brake cleaner) and weld it shut. Have it programed out with the SCT and be done with it. Then you don't have to worry about the EGR codes if they happen.

My 03 kept throwing EGR codes (as read by my SCMT1704A), despite the installation of a brand new EGR valve. When I took it to Ford as a concern, my techs OBDCII reader read NO CODES! I took it home and read codes... I surmised that my reader was not so smart as his and called it good; unplugged the new EGR; drove happy. Maybe your reading an erroneous code too... I dunno?
ok sounds like I will probably dump the egr when I can get the sct($$$), right now I am going to go with the clean and clear code method. Hopefully not replace but we shall see.
Differential Pressure Feedback EGR system. It is not installed on the 6.0 or 6.4 PSD.
It is installed on some Ford gas engine vehicles. The DPFE measures the flow throught the EGR valve and sends this info to the PCM so that the EGR valve can be better regulated by the PCM for given load and driving conditions.
Bowtie - my truck is 100% stock right now, as mucjh as I owul dlike to play with it it is my daily driver and I am looking to improve the reliability as well as pulling some more torque and HP out of it for pulling trailers without breaking the bank or the truck.
In other words I ain't rich
Seriously just looking to be cautious and do as much diagnosing and repairs my self to keep costs down, which leads to my next ??
I want to get an aftermarket scan toolfor my truck ( as well as my wifes Ch3^y) I am torn between an sct xcal setup ( that is vehicle specific right?) or say an actron type scan tool that will help me diagnose etc. I have done some reading here but still have ???
reason why i asked about the mods, is because on the 03s aftermarket air filters will cause egr codes cause it plays with the maf readings. giving certain situtions, egr codes can and will be set.
