Hello everyone! I have an 89 B2, 4X4, 5 speed, 2.9L. So, I have a new engine from Recon in there and all of the cooling components are new--thermostat, radiator, water pump, temp switch, belt, and the fan. The truck keeps running hot--just over the middle mark. Ideas of what it can be? Can it be because it's being broken in? Thanks for your help.
if its just over the middle mark you should still be good, My buddies 86 fluctuates up in down in stop and go driving and goes from middle to 3/4 the way up the gauge but never higher and he has never had issues of cracked heads and such. if you are really worried I would check out the sending unit and test it to make sure its giving off the right resistance. Also is your radiator a single core? My 84 came with a double core and not once has it even given me a problem even in the California Desert heat, where I lived with this truck for 4 years.
Thank you Canadiance. Yeah, it fluctuates between middle and 3/4 and it seems to go down when I release the excelerator and up when I press on it. The sending unit you speak of, where is it? What are the ohms that it should register? What is the test procedure? The radiator is a single core. Any more thoughts? Thank you.

It is right under the throttle body where the thermostat is and also the upper radiator hose connects right before it. There will be two electronic connectors one two wire connector for the engine computer and then to the right there will be a single wire connector which is the sending unit for the gauges. I'm not sure exactly how to test it but head over to the autozone website and go under the repair manual section and it will shed some light I'm sure.
