I'm new to the forum so bear with me if my protocol isn't just right. Recently acquired a peach of a 1950 F2. Body in great shape, drive line and suspension need reworking. Have been away from this sort of thing for more than a little while, and this is my first attempt at a truck. Have reworked several cars in the past, including 23 Ford, 50 Merc., and 50 Chevy. Enough about that, what I really need is help with identifying a front end setup that will match a 5 x 4 1/2" bolt pattern on the rear axle (to be installed). Does anyone know if there is a difference in the F1 and F2 spindles? If so can the F2 spindles be machined to F1 specs? I would like to end up with disc brakes on the front and there are lots of sources for the 4 1/2" bolt pattern for F1's, but haven't found anyone handling conversion kits for F2's. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
The larger view, I would like to keep the flat head but change transmission to a T5. Replace the rear end with later model F100 or Explorer and lower the vehicle 2 - 3" . Would also appreciate any advise / cautions anyone can offer on the overall plan.
T5/Flattie is getting to be a popular combo. Have heard only good things about it. The flattie doesn't overtax even the weaker (cheaper) non-world version, and you can use the S10 tailshaft to move the shifter forwards to clear a bench seat.
