Ok guys need your opinions
I dont know maybe some of you have run into this situation early on in your projects. Im dying to start the disasembly of my truck down to the frame but the wife after begging and begging will not give up her half of the garage. For some reason she thinks her car should sleep there at every night. so far this has been a no win situation, out of ideas at this point
First of all, nice ride. I am partial to yeller trucks.
You will be amazed at how much room your truck needs when body is disassembled. Fat fenders do not stack well at all. Find a place to store stuff while your restoring. My wifes 2001 Merc has never spent one minute inside the garage. Just thought I'd say that in case anyone is wondering who calls the big plays at 'fenders house!
Hope you stick around the forum Shane.

"The first time I ever visited a trophy shop, I thought to myself, man, this guys good!"
Thanks Fenders
Wasn't sure at first but she just might stay that color.
It is amazing how much space it all takes up. something will have to give because I cant wait no longer Maybe I'll just push that old Ford probe out in the driveway...he he
i like black trucks myself.
they seem to catch my eye.
i dont like the brigthter ones because they catch to much attention and ya cant creep around the neighbor hoods with a bright vehicle.
i agree totally with the color is a personal thing.
not everyone likes they same thing.
i am still looking for 2 people who like everything the same.
it just dont exist.
I like the looks of a real smooth gloss black paint job too, but I seen this truck in yellow for the last 26 years. For some reason I cant get past changing it now :7
Well you can do what I do since I live on a farm. I choose an open spot to do my work. I have my parts truck sitting on railway ties(didn't have wheels), cab and box sitting on the ground filled with parts. I have the fenders in a shed from both trucks. I have to do all my work out in the cold.
Wow Nathan!
I might have to look at other options as well. At the point now for engine and cab removal and it sure would be a luxury to have the extra garage space, guess I shouldn't whine so much im not outside yet. Glad to see it hasn't stop you from building your ride
my 48 spent it's first year in boxs in the basement the frame hung on the wall.
It was a long 4 years putting it together outside on the back lawn but I am proud to say it is almoust done
just remember it't not were you do it but how you do it:-X12
How big is your back yard? That's the home of my '41 and the '51 parts truck, you know, having another truck comes in handy, you can store stuff in the bed and cab. Working over dirt has it's advantages, you never have to clean up your oil spills, and when you drop a nut you won't have to worry about seeing it on your truck ever again. Of course when you live in a city or something make sure your fence is high enough so people won't be able to see the mess. I'm thinking about buying one of those canopy type garages so I can have a portable spray booth. If not you shouldn't worry about the garage, my family told me time and time agian the garage was not for my truck parts, but look who won! Ahhh, ha, ha, ha! So sooner or later you can have yourself a garage. Wait, your married, ok stick with the backyard, it's not that bad. Get a tan, fresh air, squirlles throwing nuts on your head for fun, you trowing tools in the trees at them, never having to sweep your shop, what else could you ask for? And hey! More room for tools in your garage!
My parts department is my dining room and has been for years. We just plan around the holidays accordingly. The boys and I move the fenders to the gameroom when we need the dining room.
If my wife thinks I am putting my painted sheetmetal in the garage she's nuts! Besides, it won't fit with the truck and my VW Thing out there.
i wont be doing my bodywork.
maybe alittle but i know a guy who does a excellent job on body and paint.
he can do any color of the rainbow.
im plowing his drive way this winter, so next summer he can paint my 49 for free.
he was suppost to paint my 89 f-150, but i had a shop do that and it turned out little less then ok.
im more worried about my 49 f-1.
i can have the guy do the 89 next summer also but ill have to plow next winter also.
o well.
as long as i know i can pull strings and save money.
thats all that matters is saving money.
Consider yourself lucky to get a space!! LOL! I'm really greedy and have decided that my classic FORDS belong in the garage, and his classic GMC belongs outside!!Store what you can in the bed (TRUCK bed LOL) if you arent using it while in disassembly, and yes...parts multiply, and buy your own plastic baggies and glad wear for parts storage so wife doesnt get even more upset!
You may want to consider getting one of those tent thingys with flaps. Have one of those down at our work yard and they are great! (Says the GMC also)
