When I jump in my truck and try starting it, it will turn over and make a clicking sound, but won't start. If I have my air fan on or radio on it does this. After I turn everything off, it will then turn over and crank up.
Is this a battery problem or something else???
When its running my battery gauge shows its at normal charge with the alternator.
Sounds like battery to me. More than likely one is dead and the other is trying to compensate. Always replace both batteries at the same time. When testing, make sure that the batteries are not connected or you will get a false reading.
I checked the batteries and both had a good charge. I can understand the A/C fan taking away from the starting of the truck, but not the radio. The radio shouldn't pull too much charge.
Plus the truck turns over good, when ever it starts clicking while it turns over it won't start. After I turn the radio off it will turn over with out the clicking and start.
I cleaned the post and the cables good. So maybe that fixed it. I'll let you know, I'm fixin to head to work. I appreciate ya'll suggestions and comments.
Do a load test... and a hydrometer test on each cell.. You can get a hydrometer at most auto parts stores, like napa and they can also load test your batteries.. suggest disconnecting the other battery for a load test..and remove your battery cables during the test also..
Go to Wally or local parts store. Disconnect all batt cables and have them load tested. I suggest Wally because I think you need new batts and you will be able to buy them right there.
I had the same problem, I replaced one weak battery and not the other one, Then the clicking sound and no start problem started, I even had the dealer check it and they said it was the battery connection problem, it lasted a few days and then it started again, I replaced the other battery and the problem went away. lesson I learned,
"replace both battery at the same time" I would not believe it was a battery problem.
I don't know it that is your problem or not, but it is worth a try.
