Just tinkering with my 64 F100 and looked at a truck that bought a flame kit for his truck Like 80 bucks They look simpile anyone no how to put one together also with his kit the engine shuts off then fires I was wondering if It would be safe or possible to do this while running. thanks for the help Dont exactly want to blow the truck up
HAHA....funny you posted this message...i was jsut talking to a friend about this the other day......it is ez and you can do it while running.....i estimate it costing about $5 and its all small parts.
What you need is a small spark plug (lawn mower; 2 for dules) gapped about mid way...might have to play with it.
Length of wire.
that is it! Ok....here is what you do.....you need to get that plug as close to the exit of the pipe(s). Drill a hole and tap it whit the thred patter of the plug. Attach the wire to the top section of the plug (insulate good!!!!!) and run the wire to a switch(tie the wire up and off the exhaust pipe!!!!). Run the switch to a 12 sorce....it might be a good idea to run a inline fuse too....your choice.....once you got that done...fire up the rig and pull it into first....get going and red line it and then let off the go pedel.....when you do that hit the switch.....from what i heard you can get about a 4 foot flame!!!! try it and tell me if it works....my neighbor told me bout this and its sound cool......also try cuttin a section of bicycle inertube into a 2 foot length and streach it over the exahust......(dont flame it though!!!haha)....sounds like your car/truck got some real bad gas....Be safe!! write back with any questions...if you try i would like to hear if it worked!
DAN
thats what makes it fun ..
if it were legal we wouldnt do half the stuff we do to our trucks ,
you know i got pulled over once cause my exhaust tips stuck out past my tires (side exit) ,if they want to pull you over it might as well be for a good reason ,right ?.i say have fun with it , i have it on my 77 t-bird & its a hit at the cruise nights ...
ps. i have been told its illegal here to in pa but WHO CARES ....
hey go go,dan is right about the set-up for the flames, but their is a much safer way for your motor.my buddy has a full cutom 57'fairlane 500 with this setup and a good idea for the flame effect is to weld a 3'' stainless pipe to your tail-pipes. the gauge of your stock pipes won't hold up to long.plus the amount of flames will look bigger with the 3'' pipes.as for your motor, you need a manual choke pulled about half way rev it real quick (pump it real quick) then hit the switch.you won't believe the flamesand you can do this sittin' still,or drivin'.hope this helps oleblue=
What do you mean?? You are trying to say that there is enough of an explosion that it detonates all the way back to your glasspacks?? I was thinking about do this but not now.
It wasnt that bad' At first I had it right after the glasspack and I flooded the engine big time. When it blew little bits of stuff came out. As of today I have 2 1&pip;4 PIPES WITH A four inch tip coming out. Ill just say its the funnest thing Ive done, My freinds have them on to, And we all get chased out of malls together. I tried mounting the kit like it was said up there and finnaly ended up with this set up
A pos wire from pos on coil to a switch back to another coil mounted hidden by the spark plug in the tip. Then take a wire from neg on coil to neg on back coil. Then put the sparkplug about 6-12 inches from the tips (judging on if you want more of a cone as the flame if so dont put a big tip on. If you want a blowtourch then about 6 in and big tip. My 64 F100 with a 292 makes a huge 4ft flame all I have to do is pull choke out flip switch and look out for cops. My freinds have to turn of power so it floods the engine then fire it but I can drive with mine on. So if you ask me put it on its safe for your truck and will make cars ethier follow up close or a mile away your prefrence.........party on ......
Well i am glad it worked for ya. If you ever get some pics of it i would like see em. i might try it some day...now i know it works. Thanks for testing it. L8R
Go Go,
I, too have a 1964 f-100 w/292. My question isn't about the flame throwing, but about the exhaust system. My 292 has single exhaust (with crossover in front of the engine.) I am interested in running true duals, but am unsure about the space available to run the right side pipe out the back without getting too close to the cab floor, brake lines, steering box, FUEL LINE! etc. I unsderstand that you have dual exhausts on your truck and I was wondering what type of set up you have- manifilds or headers, and where did you find space to run them?
Theres a place that advertises in Hemmings that sells headers for your y-block powered truck.I think there like $190pr for full length, they also have passenger car ones.
is there any way to get the flamethrower setup decribed to work on a fuel injected engine? It's a 302 in a 90 F-150. I'm building a 351 which will be carbeurated, but I wish I could go ahead with the flames on my 302 now. Any ideas?
HUH....well the prob with EFI engines it that they were designed to burn most of every thing comming into the cylinder. Well what you can do is take the cats off! haha....but if you want to stay leagal that is the prob. BUT you have to consider that they have emmition laws for a reason. soo i bet that all of that fuel is not getting burned. Might try and see. Might not be as big at a carbed engine but you will never know till you try. Who knows...i might be totaly wrong...but i am going off the top of my head.
