EXHAUST FLAME THROWER
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Jan-02 AT 12:39 PM (EST)]Ok guys here I go again....I've been running and modifying flamethrowers for the past 8-10 years on several of my trucks. I've put them on 65 all the way up to one 90 model with injection....it takes alittle more work on the later models. There are several websites that deal with throwers just do a search for flamethrowers and ignore the weapons sites, I found 10 or 12 just recently. Right now I'm running throwers on my 85 Bronco and 77 F250 4x4, the throwers on the Bronco are just standard throwers about 12 to 18 inchs of flame I've switched it over to carb but only cause I get better mileage than with injection and am using the same flamethrower kit as I was using with the injection. The 77, which has 22 inchs of lift 44 Boggers and 800 horse 429, will throw 35 feet of flames out each side. And to set the record straight they will put you in jail in Alabama for them, they just call it reckless endangerment.....and no I wasnt near anyone, I was sitting at an intersection just messing around but the law saw the glow and showed up. Anyway you can get as much fire as you want....I just never seem to be satisfied....working on an addition to the big dog throwers now that should get me 70 feet, and once again thats out each side. I'm using a standard thrower kit (found at a swap meet) with propane injected at the tip and kerosene injected at the tip with 135 pounds of air pressure pushing it. Its basically a 3 stage deal..the propane wont lite without the standard thrower and the kerosene wont lite without the propane lit to heat the kerosene up. I've been running this setup for about 5 years on 3 different trucks....sell the trucks and keep the flames.....and have never had any problem with hurting the engine...I suppose I probably have a little more cylinder wear but not enough I've been able to tell....as long as they are used with some common sense, kinda like nitrous....but thats another story, you'll enjoy the heck out of them. Whit

I was talking to a guy at work about this one day, and he suggested putting gas in the washer bottle, run the hose to the intakem and put the plugs in the pipes. This would save trying to get the EFI system to run rich enough to have something to burn. Just hit the button and flip the switch. He has never done this, but I guess it works great for a smoke screen if you used atf instead of gas.

I must revive this thread, it was started 5 years ago and has been added to over the years and I want to bring it back. Mostly because I have a question, In the beginning of this forum, it talks about just 2 sparks plugs and 12 volts, but nobody answered the guy at the end of this thread who was wondering if 12 volts would jump the gap.I don't think it would, and even if it did, it would be a very low energy spark, probabbly not enough to ignite the exhaust. One of the guys who succeeded at this said he used a seperate coil, but how did he get it to do individual sparks? Was it just a constant beam of electricity going between the posts in the plug like some kind of science experiment? Or did he ahve a switching module to simulate a distributor? What if i used a motrorcycle distributor hooked up to an electric motor, or I thought of simply using a grill ignitor button with the spark plugs.I have straight pipe and a manual choke, so i'm all setup to go for this project. Let's turn our thinking caps on and get this trend back on the road with some good, easy, and cheap ideas, cause I'd love to see more people start doing this.

i have an 82 302 supercab that will shoot flames about 3 foot out of the true duals out the back when you rev it up 3 times really fast and let off or when you are going fast and let off. it also makes a big backfire with it. the trucks tv show had a special kit that uses 2 seperate coils
