One of the guys at the parts store was telling me about an old car that had an external parking brake.....it was left on and that, coupled with a tranny seal leak, started a fire.
Any chance someone could point me in the right direction of a parking brake drum for this truck. The drum is 8"x2". Bolt pattern looks to be about a 3.75" circle (+/-).
Drum has very uneven wear on it (dished out) and parking brake has already quit working. If I cant find one at a reasonable price I'll just re-adjust the brake lining, but I hate to wear out the lining on a surface that is not flat.
Can this external brake drum be welded up and turned down back to spec? I assume so. See last post. The center of the drum is worn much more than the outer edges so the brake lining is only touching on the outer edges. And I left it on once.
The nut on top of tranny that holds shifter in place loosened up so I had to take the floor access panel out. Good time to get this fixed. Unless I hear otherwise I'll get it out and take by welding shop.
Welding shop said he thinks it is tempered and was afraid it would crack/ warp. Even if not, he said it may be in the neighborhood of $120 because of the time involved welding. My auto parts guy suggested me welding it using a skip pattern down the middle where it is dished out. That would work well helping it grab for the parking brake but I would feel better about having it built back up and machined flat for an emergency brake.
I may try the welding then just have machine shop turn it for me on the lathe. I can spend the time to make sure I dont overheat.
Anybody know where one of these for a 64 f350 might be?
Thank you, ND. I had looked up the part number in my manual and looks to be a fairly unique part. Have looked from time to time on Ebay and no luck. I'll proceed with welding and see if I can improve my situation.
