Had new (ford) turn signal arm professionally installed-all WAS working fine until the washer started working intermittantly (sp?) then not at all. I broke into the electric feed lines just in front of the small washer motor that is housed in the washer fluid container-Have substantial reading on meter when washer button is depressed when motor is disconnected, BUT NO reading when the motor is reconnected. (with engine running or not) Washer motor and a new spare both work when hot wired to the battery. The wipers work when the washer buttom is depressed.
I am guessing that either the turn signal arm is bad OR more than likely that some sort of relay that controls the washer pump system is suspect??? It seems when a load is put on the line not enough voltage is available to make the small washer motor work???
You should try reading the amps and correlating it with wire size and requirements of the motor. I'd actually suspect an almost burn up fuse to be the culprit or a bad connection in the harness.
How are you testing the hot lead when the washer button is depressed? You mentioned you get a hot(12V) reading with the motor disconnected. Are you grounding your tester to the engine or the ground lead on the connector. Try checking the continuity of the ground lead.
checking both ground on washer wiring and engine block. turn signal switch is new and professionaly installed. I was hoping it's a rely switch in the engine compartment -I do not have a schematic of the relays.
I had a put 2 new blinker mechanisms in my '99. Factory one lasted maybe 3 years, second one lasted 8 months and the third one lasted til trade in this spring. I had washer/wiper issues. I know of lots of fords with the same problem and replacing the blinker switch always cures the problem. I did all the installs myself (very easy to DIY). The one that lasted 8 months had a 1 year warranty and ford gave me a new one free.
Certain 99-00 Ranger's & other Ford vehicles, can have their multifunction switches replaced at no cost by the Dealer, under owner notification program 00B40, which has no expiration date!!!!!
