Howdy y'all, I've got a 95 f-150 with the 5.0L 302, since I've bought it I've noticed it takes a while for the engine to realise your stepping on the gas. If you stomp on the gas, for example, it takes about 3 seconds for the engine to actually run faster... A friend of mine thought it was something with the engine governer, is it the governer, something else, or just normal?
I'm guessing you have an automatic tranny? Some are faster than others with a downshift, but I find the Fords are generally a bit slower to drop a gear or unlock the torque converter when called upon to accelerate hard. If you are not stepping on the gas hard enough to require a downshift, then you may just be experiencig what a lot of people with 5.0 powered trucks are... the weak low end power(under 3000rpm) it produces.
Alright, yeah, she is an automatic... As far as the codes thing, I've heard people talk about it before, something with a paperclip and that ECI Test thing under the hood, right? Still, details on the correct way to pull codes would be appriciated, I don't want to break anything afterall....
Well I grounded the test plug and started the truck today, the damn light didn't blink once... Oh well, I must have skipped a step or something, I'll try it again tomorow...
I did notice, the problem only exsists when the truck is in gear, when its in park, or neutral, the motor will rev up real quick, its only when its in gear does it rev slow...
Not much to go on, but I guess I've got a project for tomorow afternoon, so long as it isin't 90 degrees again :O)

Yeah.. you need to read the article again, you are not supposed to start the truck, just turn the key to the on position.

Well yeah, when it's in gear the motor is pushing the whole truck. You don't expect it to rev the same do you? What gearing is in the truck BTW? if it's 3.08 it will be really sluggish, the 5.0 is not very powerful.
Well obviousley it woln't get up and go like a Mustang or something like that, haha... Just seems really sluggish, especially when your trying to accelerate at high speeds, like 55 or so....
And the deal with the check engine light wasn't that I had the truck started, it was just in the "on", or the position where you can hear the fuel pump prime itself.... The light just stayed on as if I hadn't done anything to the test plug at all...
I have a 79 Ford pickup with a 302, bored 30 over, edelbrock 650 carb and manifold, and high compression pistons. The trans in it kicksdown really quick, you can slow down to go around a curve and push on the gas bout 3/4 of the way and it kicks down a gear and quickly gains speed and rpms. On the highway at 65 miles an hour you can shove the gas down and the 4barrel immediately kicks on and the trans kicks down. Maybe I just have a really healthy engine and trans b/c the mods done to it are not that extensive. Forgot to mention it has a 283 comp cam, but its not degreed, its straight up so it wont drink up gas so fast.
