So I'm a youngin compared to all you old farts on this chapter And this weekend I shot a gun for the first time. I figure the guys on this forum are the only type of guys that might appreciate this (I grew up in the city with mostly kids who have NEVER even seen a gun in person). Anywho, I begged my dad to take me shooting for years and years but he never got around to it before he died. So my brother finally took me out to a range in Oroville and we fired my dads .45 cal sig handgun and a Browning Gold Hunter 12 guage shotgun. Click the images below to watch the videos (flash is required). The "I got it" in the sig video is me referring to an aerosol can that I sent flying over the hill at about 50-75 yards on my very first magazine. Check it out:
Looks like ya had a good time...shooting can be a great hobby and heck if youre good enough at it it can even turn into a career sometimes haha.

Don't have any guns anymore, but I used to shoot a .357 Smith & Wesson when I was in the security profession. I can always pick one up. And with the new legislation around the corner, I better stock up on ammo before they limite everyone but the criminals to 50 rounds a month.
I have fired enough rounds, thank you. I never did handguns, but used to compete with an M1 Garand at 600 meters (civilian). It was fun at the time, but having my gunsmith rework my weapon over and over got a bit tiring.

600 meters...awesome...I used to work with a guy who was in the Military and took Sniper training (or whatever it was called), and they dropped him out because he couldn't pass 1000 yards...seems they set the limits at 1200 yards or something.
I might have been able to qualify for sniper based on marksmanship, but would have failed every other qualification. Plus, I don't like crawling around on the ground unless it is covered with concrete and cardboard.
My best was 750 yards from a bench rest with a .308 norma magnum I used to have. I haven't shot those distances since I moved from Montana 10 years ago. My farthest long range hunting shot was a deer at between 300 and 350 yards as it was slowly walking. I was almost as shocked as the deer that I got it in one shot. I would be happy to hit something at half those distances now. I guess for what I need around here, a 12 gauge will do just fine.
Wow, you gyus must be pretty good shots, longest shot I ever made on a running Deer was about 75-100 yards, and fathest standing maybe 175...pretty sure I could have done better on many of the missed one had I had something to brace on.
Never was able to sight in at a target at more than a 100 yards, so we'd set'em about 1.5 inches high at 100 and figured they'ed be right on longer shots.
