The Patent Plate aka VIN plate is located inside the glove box door. My reference for 1948/52 says the serial number (VIN) is also located adjacent to the steering box, stamped on the frame rail.

That's it! Probably a 48 with a number that low - 5016
Vins were made up of a year/engine/model prefix followed by a three to six digit serial number
The 7R8WH is a little odd according to the operator's manual, but mis-stampings are always possible.
The '48 Operator's Manual lists V8 models as:
8ROWH COE 110" wb
8RWH COE 134" wb
8R8WH COE 158" wb

7 in the vin
Does the seven mean it had a 6 cyl or what. I know it had a mercury flatty in it before I purchased it. Thanks for the info

That's whats odd - that position is for the year. Normally an 8 or 9.
The R in the vin is for the V8.
As the new line of trucks started rolling thru tho, we've seen all kinds of exceptions. My best guess - and thats all it is - the stamper grabbed the 7 instead of the 8 like he had been doing for a whole year before. The serial string is low enough that this points to a January truck.
